ABC has been home to a number of popular reality shows over the years. One of the first reality shows to reach a high level of popularity was America's Funniest Home Videos, which first aired in November of 1989. This show continues to be popular, and the series has been renewed for 2007 and 2008. On this show, viewers will send them homemade videos which show funny moments that have happened to them or members of their family or friends. The style of comedy used for this show is often referred to as slapstick comedy, and it is mostly accidents.
A selection of videos is chosen by the producers each week, and the audience votes on them. The first place winner is given $10,000, and the second place winner $3000. The third place winner gets $2000. The winner of the $10,000 prize is eligible for the grand prize, which is $100,000. This show has the largest number of episodes for any reality show on ABC.

American Inventor - American Inventor is a reality show which first aired on ABC in March of 2006. As the name suggests, American Inventor is a search to find the best inventor in the United States. Peter Jones, who is an entrepreneur, was the person responsible for coming up with the idea. The winner of season one was Janusz Liberkowski, who invented the Anecia Safety Capsule. The second season is expected to air in June of 2007.
The Bachelor - The Bachelor is a reality show that first aired on ABC in 2002. All the seasons of this show so far have been hosted by Chris Harrison. During this show, an affluent bachelor is pursued by 25 women, who act as contestants. A number of group dates will start at the beginning of the season, and a female contestant will be eliminated each episode, until only a few women are left. At this point, the women will go on individual dates, and they are eliminated until only one remains, who is declared the winner. This series was a massive hit, and it still maintains a strong following.
Dancing With The Stars - This is a reality show which first aired in 2005. This show features a group of celebrities who are paired up with professional ballroom dancers. The couples then compete against each other to gain the highest score. The score is determined by a combination of scores from an expert judging panel and audience votes. This show has maintained a strong following, and a variety of celebrities have been featured so far, from football players to actors and boxers.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - This is a reality show that was given the Emmy Award, and it first aired in 2003. In this show, the house of a family is renovated by a group of designers while the family is sent on a great vacation by the show. This show uses a format which is similar to Extreme Makeover. This is a highly rated reality television series.
Supernanny - Supernanny is a reality show that originated in Britain, with a US version created for ABC. Both versions of the show feature Jo Frost, a nanny who is responsible for helping a family deal with an out of control child or children. She uses her expertise to help the family in each episode.
Wife Swap - This is another British reality show that has an American version airing on ABC. It was first broadcast in 2004. Two couples (usually from very different backgrounds) exchange wives for a two week period and the television show chronicles what happens during the two weeks and what each family takes from the experience.
