American Idol Season 7
The winner of American Idol Season 7 was David Cook.
Season 7 of American Idol saw the Battle of the Davids in the finale. This season allowed the contestants to play musical instruments while singing and several took advantage of that opportunity. Themes throughout the year included the Lennon/McCartney Songbook, the '60s, '70s, and '80s, the year the contestant was born, Mariah Carey, and Dolly Parton.
The show began on January 15 and ended on May 21, 2008 with David Cook being named the season seven American Idol. All-in-all, 97 million votes were cast, with David Cook received approximately 12 million more votes than runner-up David Archuleta. For the first time, neither finalist had ever been in the bottom two or three. Both Davids went on to have successful debut albums.

It was ladies night on “American Idol” and frankly, I found many of the performances to be dreary. I loved that the show opened with Ellen on Simon’s lap, kissing him.
