2009 MTV Music Awards Nominees
The 2009 MTV Music Awards will be held on May 31 at 9 pm/8 pm C. Hosting the show this year will be Saturday Night Live’s own Andy Samberg.
This year, much of the show will be a face-off between two very popular movies – Twilight and Slumdog Millionaire. Both films have received nominations in six categories, including “Best Movie,” “Best Kiss,” and “Breakthrough Performance Male.”
Twilight star Kristen Stewart is nominated for “Best Performance Female.” Both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are nominated for “Best Performance Male.” Robert Pattinson received a nomination in the “Best Fight” category with Cam Gigandet and also in the “Breakthrough Performance Male” category. The Twilight song “Decode” was also nominated for “Best Song from a Movie.”
Slumdog Millionaire also saw nominations in “Breakthrough Performance Female” (for Freida Pinto) while her co-star Dev Patel was nominated for “Breakthrough Performance Male.” Ayush Mahesh Khedekar was nominated for a new category this year – “Best WTF Moment.” The song “Jai Ho” was also nominated for “Best Song from a Movie.”
Also nominated this year are the films Dark Knight, High School Musical 2: Senior Year, and Iron Man. Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, and Taraji Henson are all vying for “Best Female Performance” while Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr., Shia LaBeouf, Vin Diesel, and Zac Efron are vying for “Best Male Performance.”
There’s also “Best Comedic Performance” (Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, James Franco, Jim Carrey, and Steve Carell) and “Best Villain,” which includes a posthumous nomination for Heath Ledger.
