51 pounds is the magic number for the men
Temptation. This week’s show begins with a temptation for the 13 remaining contestants. Each of them had a letter or card from their family (whom they’ve had no contact with since moving into the house on the ranch) that they could read. The catch was that if they wanted to read the letter they had to eat the fattening food in front of them. We had pizza, we had French fries, we had chocolate mousse, we had German chocolate cake. Surprisingly no one gave into the temptation, even though they were desperate for words of love and affection from their families.
Both teams were concentrating their workouts on core strength, speed, agility and balance because they needed to have them for this week’s challenge. Each team had to walk across a pond on a board that wasn’t too wide. The team to have all of their members on the other side first wins. The women won this challenge, and by winning it not only did they get to read the letters from their families, but they got an additional 24 hours to diet and work out before their weigh in this week.
The men’s weighed in first. They lost a total of 51 pounds, a 2.6% loss. The men were pretty bummed out, figuring the ladies would have the advantage with the extra 24 hours. Matt got hurt during the next day’s workout – he was racing a sprint against Jillian when at the end he collapsed. Turns out he tore his quad and will have to take it easy for a while.
In order for the women to win this week, they had to lose a team total of 33 pounds. They didn’t even come close. Andrea had lost the most weight so she had immunity when it came time to kick one of the contestants off the show. The next day Jillian had it out with Nick. She called him the “wife” and “mother” of the men’s team – telling them that while the others are out working hard, their “wife” has dinner waiting. She accused Nick of trying to sabotage the team and their success. A screaming match ensued and Jillian stormed out of the room. When all was said and done, Kathryn was eliminated. A few of the people who voted for her said it was because of her foot injury, the others said because she didn’t try to open up and become part of the team. Kathryn told Caroline and the rest of the team that when she came to the ranch it wasn’t to get herself six new best friends. We found out that Kathryn is continuing her healthy lifestyle and weight loss. She’s joined a kick boxing gym and has lost a total of 34 pounds since she arrived at the ranch.
