A1: The 12 Male Finalists
Tonight was the first night of seeing the 12 male finalists…and it wasn’t anything spectacular. Rudy started the night out, which has to be a tough position. But seriously dude – Freeride? That song is like 1,000 years old. Even Simon said it was dated. Brandon didn’t fair much better, with Randy and Paula saying he was pitchy. Sundance sang “Knights in White Satin” – again another song that is 1,000 years old. Simon called it uninspiring. The judges liked his bluesy audition style and he hasn’t show it SINCE the audition. Paul did a “ordinary copy” of Careless Whisper. Chris R. didn’t fair well and the best Nick got was “didn’t think it was that bad.” That is hardly a compliment, but was pretty good for tonight.
Blake’s vocals were a pleasant surprise, but Randy said he kept waiting for the beatbox. They really trashed my boy Sanjaya. I thought his vocals were good and he looked confident, but Randy said it was really bad. Chris S got pretty good reviews from Randy and Paula, but not Simon. But, Chris got him back – he said he was sorry he wasn’t Il Divo or the Teletubbies. Ouch. Jared was told he was unadventurous by Simon and A.J. was told he was good, but nothing great. Phil ended the night on a high note – his song started out rough, but got better. Simon and Ryan had a few words during the show (what a surprise) and Ryan ended the show by thanking Randy and Paula, then went straight to thanking the band. No thanks for Simon tonight.
