Aaron Carter

Aaron Carter has spent much of his young life in the celebrity limelight. After personal, financial, and legal problems, he has a chance to redeem himself as a contestant on the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.” His partner will be Karina Smirnoff.

Aaron was born on December 7, 1987 in Tampa, Florida. His older brother Nick was a member of the Backstreet Boys. Aaron also has three sisters (twins Angel and BJ and Leslie), an older half sister (Ginger), a younger half brother (Kaden), and a younger stepsister (Taelyn).

Aaron went to elementary school at Frank D. Miles and then attended the Ruskin School in Florida. He has said he felt pushed into showbiz at a young age, perhaps because of his brother’s success. Able to play the drums, piano, guitar, and saxophone, Aaron began performing at the age of 7 in a local band named Dead End. He left after a couple of years to go solo.

He opened for the Backstreet Boys in March 1997 and that performance led to a recording contract. He released “Crush on You,” his first single, and his debut album that fall. The album went gold in Canada, Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Spain. Aaron’s parents would eventually sue manager Lou Pearlman, claiming that he failed to pay the Carters royalties from the album.

After a collaboration with the Backstreet Boys, ‘N Sync, The Moffits, and others on a fund-raising EP called “Let the Music Heal Your Soul,” Aaron worked on several movie soundtracks including The Princess Diaries, Pokemon: The First Movie, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Rugrats in Paris: The Movie. His second album, Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), was released in 2000 and went triple platinum in the United States. Aaron released his third album, Oh Aaron, when he was 13 years old. It featured the single “Oh Aaron,” which is a duet with his brother Nick. Along with the release of the album, Play Along Toys released an Aaron Carter action figure.

In 2002, Aaron released Another Earthquake. That was the same year Aaron’s parent separated and later divorced, which cause much turmoil in the family. He filed for legal emancipation in December of that year, accusing his mother of taking money from him without permission. He claimed he was missing almost $6.5 million. He later reconciled with his mother and withdrew the filing.

Aaron has appeared in several television shows including “7th Heaven,“ “Lizzy McGuire,” and “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.” He made a cameo appearance in Fat Albert and did voice work in Liberty’s Kids and appeared on Broadway in 2001 in Seussical the Musical. Aaron and his family even got their own reality show, “House of Carters,” in 2006. The show featured the five Carter siblings living in one house, but only lasted one season.

Aaron’s personal life has been in the news. He’s dated Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff and was rumored to have dated Nick’s ex, Paris Hilton. Hulk Hogan claims he threw Aaron, who was dating Hogan’s daughter Brooke, out of the house for being disrespectful. Aaron was engaged to Playboy model Kari Ann Peniche in 2006, but he ended the engagement after only a week. He was arrested in 2008 for speeding and police found marijuana in his car.

In his spare time, Aaron likes to play soccer, golf, and basketball.
