AI: British Invasion
I think tonight was the best night of all shows this year, performance wise. No one truly sucked, although of course, some performances were better than others. The judges seemed to like Haley for the most part, although Simon said she was screechy at points. Chris R. did a great version of “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying,” but I thought it was odd that Simon said he had never heard that song. Stephanie didn’t wow the judges this week like she usually does. Simon said it was too old, which is pretty much the same thing he said about Lakisha’s version of “Diamonds are Forever.”
I adored Blake’s version of “Time of the Season” but then he has been one of my favorite guys all season. Phil – ew, I think Phil might be in the bottom three again this week. Simon agreed, saying he might be in trouble after he sang “Tobacco Road.” Jordin was very controlled this week and Simon said she sang it beautifully, but it depressed him. Sanjaya – finally, my little Sanjaya has come alive. Not that the vocals were great, but he looked like he was finally having fun on stage and this was his best performance yet. Didn’t really care for Gina’s version of “Paint It Black” – she may find herself in the bottom three as well. I liked Chris S’s version of “She’s Not There” and I love the Zombies, but thought it was odd that two people choose Zombie songs tonight.
Melinda – what can you say about Melinda that hasn’t already been said? Yes, everyone stepped up to the plate tonight, but I seriously think they should just give her the title and for the rest of the season, we can all vote on Idol runner-up. If she keeps up at this pace, no one will pass her.
