AI: Latin Sound
This week’s American Idol was just weird. It was Latin Sound night, which pretty much equated to Gloria Estefan and Carlos Santana songs. To me, there were only two standouts – Blake and Sanjaya. Blake did a great version of “I Need to Know” – so good that I might consider downloading it. And Sanjaya…he wasn’t half bad. There was no outrageous hair, no whispering, no smarmy remarks. In fact, Simon said he hated to say it, but Sanjaya “wasn’t horrible.” Which, given Simon’s dislike for Sanjaya, is a pretty good review.
Melinda started the show off well, but something was just missing. I love the song “Sway” and she sang it well, but there just wasn’t the It Factor Randy is always talking about. Same thing for Lakisha’s version of “Conga.” Simon thought it was too safe, as did Paula. Chris got rave reviews from the judges for his version of “Smooth” but I preferred last week’s performance to this week. Haley continued to show leg and was told by Randy it was karaoke. Phil continued to bore me this week with his version of “Maria Maria.” Randy thought it was boring and Simon said it was a good song, but lifeless. Randy gave Jordin the “yo factor on blast” for “Rhythm is Gonna Get You.” As I said, Blake had the best performance of the night – even Simon agreed. Paula said Sanjaya was smooth and Randy said he was really good.
Who’s on the chopping block? I gotta put Phil and Haley in the bottom again. They are used to being there, but once again, I think Haley’s number is up this week.
