This week was just a mess. Three people forgot their lyrics (Brandon, Haley, and Stephanie) – the very thing that gets you sent packing in Hollywood week. It seemed that Randy’s favorite phrase of the night was “It wasn’t my favorite.” I think the stylists are trying to punish poor Sanjaya for his fans keeping him in the competition. Did you see that hair? What was up with that? I was so hoping he’d be better this week, but this week to me was worse than last week. I couldn’t vote for him last night – it is almost getting painful to watch him up there. He has a good voice and is a sweet boy, but at 17, he obviously doesn’t have the oomph stage presence that is needed.
Simon thought Gina’s “Love Child” was forgettable, everyone seemed to agree that they hated Chris S.’s arrangement of “Endless Love” (me too!), Randy thought Phil’s song was boring. I didn’t even care for Lakisha’s “God Bless the Child” until the judges went on about how controlled her voice was – then I guess I understood the rave reviews. Blake’s arrangement of “Keep Me Hanging On” was so hypnotic, it almost put me in a trance. Simon thought Chris R.’s vocals were “dreadful.” Eveyone loved Jordin, but it bored me.
So who is going home this week? Hard to say. I initially thought Sanjaya – I have now realized he just shouldn’t be there, but who knows? With many forgetting their words, two bad arrangements, and several forgettable performances, it will come down to fan favorites, which, I am afraid, means Sanjaya will be back next week.
