Albert Reed is eliminated from Dancing With The Stars

Another elimination show for Dancing With The Stars, another long and drawn out ordeal for me as a fan.  The show begins with a recap of what happened last night and some excerpts from the confessional interviews of the celebrities.  Ho hum………I can log onto the ABC web site and get that information.  Give me some dancing!  We finally get to see the encore performance and some dancing celebrities at 9:08 pm when Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough performed their great Mambo from last evening.  It was just as good tonight as last night.

Queen Latifah was the musical performer tonight.  Her first song was a remake of a Frank Sinatra song (I’m going to live until I die, I think is the name of the song) from her new album.  Professional dancers Victor Fung and Anna Mikhed performed along with her.  There were several things I liked about this performance by Queen Latifah.  First, the song was great.  Second, she looked really nice – what a transformation she’s undergone in her career.  Finally, the music was performed by the musicians who work week in and week out on Dancing With The Stars.  Fung and Mikhed were beautiful – they did an amazing Quickstep.  Her second performance was the song “California Dreamin’” and an arrangement done specifically for DWTS.  Tony Dovolani and Anna Trebunskaya did a Rumba to this song and it was really good.  I thought she looked amazing in her blue costume, but if one of the little straps had come loose could you say wardrobe malfunction?

We also saw a performance of a tango by two other professional ballroom couples to “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon.”  Two things I want to say about this.  First, who is picking the songs?  This reminds me of the Tango from season 2 when Jerry Rice and Anna Trebunskaya performed a Tango to a Blondie song.  Len Goodman tells them that they did not do a proper Tango, and Anna says for heaven’s sake it’s Blondie what do you want (paraphrased, of course….it’s been a while since season 2 and I can’t remember the exact comments).  Second, these couples were great, but why are the producers brining in dancers not currently competing this season?  I would much rather see the professionals from this season doing the exhibitions.

At least this season the Jimmy Kimmel bits are actually funny.  This week he introduced us to the person responsible for answering the telephone votes – The Count from Sesame Street.  I really found this skit funny.  For a change I didn’t think he was a waste of my time.

The bottom two couples this week were Wayne Newton and Cheryl Burke and Anna Trebunskaya and Albert Reed.  Ultimately it was Albert Reed who was eliminated and all I have to say is what is that all about?  I thought for sure he would be in it for a while, but I guess Wayne’s fans pulled him through yet again.

I was surprised to see that Mark Cuban was saved from elimination this week.  Now I think he seems like a really hard worker and is great to watch, but I was worried that his low scores would put him in danger.  I guess his being in the bottom two last week got his fans up off their butts to vote for him and Kym.  Or his personality and charm in his performance this week won over some new fans.

We did hear that Jane Seymour got some sad news after last night’s show – her mother had passed away.  I’m sure she knows that all of us fans of Dancing With The Stars are sending our thoughts out to her.  Tom Bergeron announced that she will continue competing this season and I think that is a tribute to her and her professionalism.
