Alec Mazo
Alec Mazo knows what it is like in the winner’s circle. After all, he and partner Kelly Monaco won the first season of “Dancing with the Stars.” But, he also knows what is like to be eliminated first, as he and partner Paulina Porizkova experienced last season. This year, he is paired with actress and supermodel Josie Maran. Will they finish at the top, be the first to go home, or fall somewhere in the middle?
Alec was born in Russia and began dancing by the time he was five. His family moved to America when he was 12. He grew up in San Antonio, Texas where his mother ran a dance studio.
Alec received a BA in Cognitive Science from the University of California, Berkley. His professional partner is Edyta Sliwinska. The two only began dancing professional a few years. Before that, they successfully competed as amateur Latin dancers. Alec placed first in the International Grand Ball and the Holiday Dance Classic in 2001. He was also named the Emerald Ball Latin Amateur Champion.
Alec and Edyta made the news recently when they married on September 1, 2007. They operate a youth ballroom dance academy in San Francisco, the Genesis Ballroom Dancing Academy.
