Allison is kicked off Project Runway tonight
I think that the ability to take something that is ugly and make it beautiful would be a true test of a designer’s talent. That’s what the producers of Project Runway were trying to do tonight, in their garbage challenge. Ok, technically it was recyclable materials, but same difference. It was used by someone previously and thrown away. The remaining designers were brought to a recycling facility in Newark, NJ and given 30 minutes to dig through the piles of trash to find materials to make a garment of their choice. And they were only given one day (7 hours) to complete the garment.
The constraints of this challenge (both in time and materials) really took a toll on some of the designers. About halfway through the show Tim did his walk through of the designs in process. Some of the designers I thought were really good in the previous challenges seemed to be struggling, namely Kayne and Allison. Vincent is always out there so I wasn’t too surprised with his reaction to his dress at this point versus Tim’s reaction. This challenge probably is comparable to the flower challenge of last season, when some of the designers really stepped up while the other designers struggled. But I digress.
On the runway tonight the good outfits were really, really good while the bad outfits were just horrid. I truly wonder what Vincent thinks about when he designs clothes. He just goes over that line that makes the outfit one that falls in the bottom three instead of in the middle of the pack or the top (like the shoulders on the Miss USA dress challenge - if he didn’t have those sleeves he would have had a very good shot at winning). Kayne just got in way over his head with this project. And poor Allison - I think she might be one of the least experienced designers left and that showed itself tonight.
Michael won the challenge again this week, and I disagreed with the judges. I liked Jeffrey’s dress so much better. Michael’s outfit was way out there, while I thought Jeffrey was classic in a weird sort of way.
In the end it was Allison who was kicked off the show tonight. The judges said they couldn’t believe that she was so careless with the female form.
The confrontation between Vincent and Laura at the end of the show was interesting. At first I thought that Angela would be made out to be the villain of the series, but now I think the producers are trying to show Laura as the token %^@. (Falsely so in my opinion - she’s just standing her ground and speaking her mind and those two things are a sin in a lot of people’s eyes.) And I’m not too sure what to make of Jeffrey. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t seem to be a “typical” male designer (in other words, he’s a little more masculine than most of the men that have been on this show) but he seems to be a person (like Laura) who wants to stand his ground and speak his mind. Makes me wonder where these two are going to take us.
