Amazing Race 10 - The Contestants
Bilal and Sa’eed – Best Friends
Best friends for the past 15 years and both family-men in their late 30’s from Cleveland, Ohio. I don’t believe this should really matter, but it’s already been played up in the previews about their shared Muslim faith. More important in my opinion is their military and travel experience which should aid them during the race.
David and Mary – Coal Miner and Wife
David is also ex-military and can be described as the adventuresome-one. Working in a coal mine in Kentucky takes a special kind of grit and is not for wimps. Mary is the stay-at-home mom with limited travel experience. In the race for the adventure of it, I have high hopes for this team and am curious to see how they handle foreign countries and cultures.
Duke and Lauren – Father/Daughter Team
Adding a twist to the parent-child dynamic for this team is the reunion for these two. The basic story is when Lauren admitted to being a lesbian her and her father didn’t communicate for a number of years. If their relationship and communication skills before this turning point were both strong, I doubt they will continue to be a factor. In fact, I’d expect both to be quite strong during the race as they dig deep to not disappoint the other.
Dustin and Kandice – Beauty Queens
Both Miss America contestants, Dustin hails from San Diego and Kandice resides in New York as a Rockette. I hate to stereotype, but while it’s evident they are both competitive and have a fair amount of stamina and endurance, I just don’t see them as overly qualified to contend for winning this race. At least they haven’t based their strategy on their good-looks and ability to flirt. We’ve seen in previous races how limited this sort of angle can be and I hope they prove me wrong and make it at least to the final stages.
Erwin and Godwin – Brothers
Sibling teams are always good fun. History shows they bicker a lot, but always maintain their union. Add to this the motivation for Godwin to prove to his very-capable older brother he is an equal participant and we may see some really good showings from these two.
Kellie and Jamie – Cheerleaders
Let’s just clear this up now – Kellie is the blond and Jamie is the brunette. Both young and beautiful, I believe they will make it through to the final stages. However, their limited travel experience may be a hindrance.
Lyn and Karalyn – Single Parents / Friends
These are both intelligent and hard-working individuals and have a very strong friendship which can only help them in the race. Previous ‘mom’ teams haven’t fared so well in the race and I hope they change this statistic. My concerns are their self-proclaimed goals of ‘adventure and travel’ and ‘experience’. This is great for them and will likely keep them in good-spirits, but not necessarily strong competitors.
Peter and Sarah – Recently Dating
Certainly the physically strongest as they are both Ironman competitors, their not-yet classified and/or solidified relationship dynamic may be their Achilles heal – or an incredible asset.
Rob and Kimberly – Dating
Entering the race to see how the relationship withstands the pressure is always good for a bit of drama. These two both claim to be pretty easy-going and certainly have ‘people-skills’ from their bartending experience, so they may do pretty darn well. With two years of relationship-history and the recent commitment to at least live together, I suppose this experience just could either make or break them.
Tom and Terry – Boyfriends
Also a couple testing the bonds of their young relationship, I have faith whenever you team the strengths of two men. Also, they are a bit more mature (39 and 45) and from New York. Something tells me this may be a really strong team for the race. My only concern may be their apparent lack of physical conditioning experience. It will also be fun to see how they handle the driving. Let’s face it, many New Yorkers just don’t need to drive too much.
Tyler and James – Models
Young, strong, and good looking guys; right off the bat these two represent the biggest threat to the other teams. Something tells me they better be friendly and have compelling personalities to thwart the possible alliances formed from the mutual hatred of the other teams. If so, then all of this combined with their travel experience really gives this team one heck of an advantage.
Vipul and Arti – Married
I think this is the only married couple in this season’s production. Both young and intelligent with the ability to speak several languages should prove beneficial. Again, my concern stems from any couple which claims a motivation to compete in the race for the mere experience. Only winners compete to win in my book.
