Amazing Race - A Surprising Turn
Going into this week’s episode, Rob and Amber had been first to all pit stops. They seemed unstoppable. After Rob spouted off a few cocky comments tonight, I had hoped they would at least finish in second or further down. Be careful what you ask for…
The teams left on a flight to Punta Arenas and were to find a shipwreck to their next clue. Teri and Ian had to fight to get on the first flight and Team Guido and Charla and Mirna didn’t make it. They had to take a flight almost two hours later. Mirna cracked me up when she was talking about how she had to do so much more than more contestants because of their “shortcomings.”
Rob’s first offense was to steal Uchenna’s directions to the shipwreck from the stewardess. At least that is how Uchenna phrased it. The Detour was Navigate It or Sign It. Navigate It consisted of getting to town plaza, getting a compass from a sailor, then finding a local building. In Sign It, the teams had to figure out Magellan’s voyage cities, then paint those on signs and nail them to a sign post. All cities had to be spelled correctly. Sign It turned out to be a nightmare. Rob and Amber and the Blondes wasted so much time (Rob cannot spell Philippines), they finally gave up and did the other detour. Meanwhile Oswald and Danny jumped into first place by completing the easier detour first.
Next, they took charter flights (two separate ones, leaving three hours apart) then had to take boats to the post office at the “end of the world.” Once they got there, there was a Roadblock. One contestant had to sort through 1,600 letters to find one of two with their names on it. As Rob and Amber and Charla and Mirna arrived last at the airport, all the taxis were gone. Charla called for a taxi, but Rob got to it first, saying they had called for a taxi too. Now, I didn’t see Rob call for a taxi. To take one, especially from a little person, just seems wrong, but I guess it is a race. Rob and Amber also lied about finding the next clue, sending Charla and Mirna the wrong way. Charla and Mirna were the last to leave on the boats for the post office and I thought they were going to be eliminated.
Meanwhile, Oswald and Danny finished in first place and got a trip to Maui. Eric and Danielle finished second. Teri and Ian stepped it up and finished third. Team Guido finished fourth and the Blondes came in fifth. With Joyce and Rob sorting through letters, Charla and Mirna finally arrived by boat. Joyce found her letter, but Rob was still searching, even after Mirna found hers. Uchenna and Joyce finished sixth and Charla and Mirna finished seventh, with a big welcome from Uchenna.
With Rob and Amber in last, I figured it would be a non-elimination pit stop, but no, once they got there, they were informed they were eliminated. Three weeks at first, then the one time they didn’t finish first, they finished in last. It’s anybody’s race now.
