Amazing Race: Michael and Mark are Saved…for Another Week
The “Amazing Race” teams left Phuket for Bangkok. The Roadblock was to attach a propeller to a rod on a boat. We learned that Victor is NOT mechanical – he saw several others complete the task before he did. However, the clue was to take the boat through the canals of Bangkok to look for the Peninsula pier. Victor and Tammy did think to get their bags from the cab – Michael and Mark and Jen and Kisha didn’t. Jen was not happy, but Kisha said it would work out okay.
Tammy and Victor waved at monks while they were on the way to the pier. Can monks wave back? Anyhow, the Detour was Broken Teeth (the teams had to fit five people with correct dentures from a group of 50) or Broken Record (had to ride in a party cab with locals for 5 miles and sing karaoke). Why don’t we have party cabs in the U.S.? That would be so cool! Tammy noticed right away the locals were Mai Thai Trannies while Michael and Mark never caught on. Only Margie and Luke were brave enough to do the teeth thing – gross! And Margie ended up fitting everyone, but her nurse training helped.
Michael and Mark decided to go back for their bags in a taxi, but not before arguing about it. I think they had their passports, so they could have continued on. The only problem was they didn’t have enough to pay the guy when they got there, so they gave him some stuff. Same thing on the way back. Margie and Luke checked in first, winning a trip to Puerto Rico. Jaime and Cara, still acting nasty to the locals on this leg, finished second. Kish and Jen decided to check in before getting their bags, but were told they had to go back and get their passports before they could really be checked in. Tammy and Victor, right on their heels, were checked in in third place.
Michael and Mark got back before Kisha and Jen, but were told they brokered their way there and back, so they incurred four hours in penalties. Kish and Jen were okay because they had their cabbie take them for free, so they were checked in fourth. I think it kinda stinks that if you can get someone to do it for free, that is okay, but if you try to pay the guy in some way, you get not just penalized, but in a big way! Still, I am sure Michael and Mark were told not to do that and after the penalty last week, they apparently learned nothing.
So now, next week, Michael and Mark will have 3 hours and 10 minutes left on their penalty plus the speedbump.
