America’s Best Dance Crew: The Banner Falls for Southern Movement
The audience was the ones ripped off this week on “America’s Best Dance Crew.” This week was the marital arts challenge. Each crew got a different style of martial arts to incorporate into their dance. To help them was Steve from Quest Crew.
Afroborike got capoeira, a Brazilian martial art form. All three judges agreed they could have come harder, with Shane saying he found it boring. We Are Heroes got karate and were to incorporate the flying fist move. Lil Mama thought it was dope, but JC felt it started out slow, but picked up. Vogue Evolution got kung fu and had to incorporate the movements of a tiger. JC was so fluttered he couldn’t talk – said the performance woke him up. Lil Mama agree with JC, but Shane said he didn’t like it at all.
Massive Monkees got extreme martial arts and had to use the 540, a high flying kick. The only problem was that only one guy did it in the routine and all the judges called them out for that. Still, Shane said it was a very exciting routine. Beat Ya Feet Kings got tae kwon do and had to use the foot fake. Lil Mama said they were smooth and clean, but Shane said crews need to stop watching Youtube because he had seen the punch punch punch routine each season for the last three years. I guess I don’t watch Youtube enough because I thought it was cool.
The bottom two crews were Rhythm City and Southern Movement. Unfortunately for America, they gave the best two performances of the night. Rhythm City got muay thai and had to use elbow strikes. I loved Rhythm City’s girl’s outfits – the school girl and the Bruce Lee/The Bride outfit (which paid homage to Kill Bill Vol. I). Shane said they put themselves back on the map.
Southern Movement got kali, which uses stick or sword fighting. They were the only crew to have to use a prop, but they did it well. JC said they were dealt the hardest task, but killed it.
After what Lil Mama called “a battle,” we learned that the banner was falling for Southern Movement. As they left, the audience gave them a standing ovation.
