America’s Got Talent – Chicago Auditions

The crew was in Chicago this week for auditions and there were some weird acts and some really great acts.

First, the weird acts.  Consuelo, with her chanting/gospel form was just terrible, as was poor little 10 year old singer Francisse.  At least the judges tried to be kind to her after she started crying.  The judges thought pianist John England couldn’t make the cut.  His music was good, but it was a bit boring.  His outfit however was spectacular.  I think we have a successor to Liberace!  Danny Flores said he was a mime, but I am not sure he knows the definition of the word.  He came out singing – singing?  A mime?  And it wasn’t good either.  Boy Shakira frightened me, but the judges and audience loved him.  He moved on to the next round, but I seriously doubt we will ever see him again on the show.  Dancer Kashif also made it through, unexplainably in my opinion, but I doubt we will see him again either.

Now for the good.  I loved ventriloquist Terry Fator, whose dummy Emma Taylor sang Etta James.  That was just incredible – David and Sharon both jumped out of their seats!  The Second Story Guys, a dancing act on stilts, were amazing – especially the back flip at the end of the performance.  The Fault Line, an a cappella grunge group, blew away both the judges and the audience.  Kevin James, a magician, had an act that was decidedly slower, but amazing nonetheless.

There were a few acts the judges raved over that I didn’t care about.  Sideswipe, the karate dancers were back.  The made it through the initial round last year, but had to drop out because one of the guys got injured.  To me, they were just okay, but Piers seemed to think they could win the whole thing.  Cas Haley, a singer, did a version of “Walking on the Moon” that I hated, but Piers said he sang the song better than the original singer – Sting!

Next week, the auditions are in New York City.
