America’s Got Talent: Neal E. Boyd Wins!
This was the closet finale on America’s Got Talent. The Hoff got it right when he said that the final five were all amazing talents. We saw the top ten perform together, which was okay, but then really, why the All Stars? And they had to sing one of my all time favorite Queen songs “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Ugh.
It was nice to see the artists congratulate the final five. Il Divo said they were impressed with Neal’s version of one of their songs. Brian McKnight wished Queen Emily well and Marc Cohn said he would write a song for Eli Mattson when he got a recording contract. Andrew Lloyd Webber said he hoped to work with Donald Braswell one day and Wyclef Jean called Nuttin’ but Stringz “family.”
First out was Queen Emily, which was a bit of a shock to me. I thought Donald Braswell would go first. He was the next one out – great voice, but there is just no excitement there. I got plenty of excitement when the third act was called out –Nuttin’ but Stringz! If you read my last blog, you know I was torn about these guys. They are great, but I think they have a shot at fame without winning this show, so all my votes went to Ely Mattson (although I adore Neal E. Boyd as well!). Maybe the rest of America thought they had a shot as well because when it came down to it, they were the most exciting act this season, hands down.
So it was between Eli and Neal – they both looked shocked to be there. After Piers’ statement last week, I think they thought Nuttin’ but Stringz would win! I was hoping Jerry would announce the winner before either one of them passed out. Eli said that Neal would be around forever, which was a nice statement considering he was shaking. Then, Jerry finally read the winning name – Neal E. Boyd.
There were times during each and every show this season that I despised watching, but in the end, there was great talent on the stage tonight and the viewing public got it right.
