America’s Got Talent: The Semi-Finals
It is finally down to the semi-finals in “America’s Got Talent.” The first ten acts performed. Acrodunk set the pace with an exciting, fast-paced performance that Piers called “absolutely unbelievable.” The Texas Tenors were on next and Hoff said he could see their name on a Vegas billboard. Piers said they came out and performed the cheesiest pop song (Unchained Melody) in the cheesiest way and asked if that meant they felt they knew more than he did. Before they could answer, he said if they did, they would be right because it worked.
Paradizo Dance came out with a cute, humorous skit that none of the judges liked as much as the more romantic themed act. Piers said it was hard to follow the first two groups, but they became a different act and he didn’t mean that in a good way. Drew Thomas didn’t get a much better review. He did a performance based on his daughter and Piers called it slow, said he had already seen that trick before, and called Drew a “one trick pony.” Hoff and Sharon disagreed and thought it was very heartfelt.
Tony Hoard and Rory, whom Piers said shouldn’t be there, did much better this time. Rory, who is such a cute dog, missed the last trick, but I think that was because he got distracted by a Frisbee Tony threw away at the end. Hoff said they stepped it up and Piers said they were way better than the last performance.
The Voices of Glory got some tough love from Piers. While he said he loved them, he insinuated that the girl was the star and the brothers might have to step to the side at some point. Cute act – loved that the oldest boy said they would give the money to their dad if they won, but they still bore me a bit. Branson, not Vegas!
The Fab Five did a good job, but I just cannot imagine watching cloggers for an hour or two. Piers felt it might be tough for them to get through, given the other talent. Grandma Lee killed the crowd as usual, stripping off her pants to show Union Jack boxers. Piers said she could wear his shorts anytime. Arcadian Lee did a high school number that he apparently hadn’t planned. He said the producers gave it to him. The Hoff loved it, but Piers said he wasn’t good enough to make it to the finals because other acts had been so good.
Kevin Skinner finished up the night with “You Were Always on My Mind.” God love him, he is so country, you just have to root for him. But he is a good singer to, in a bit of a relaxed, low-key way like Willie Nelson. Piers told him he was his favorite to win the competition.
Only four acts will make it through. My bets are on Acrodunk, the Texas Tenors, Grandma Lee, and Kevin Skinner.
