American Idol: Asia’h Epperson, Kady Malloy, Luke Menard and Danny Noriega are eliminated
It’s official! More than 36 million votes were cast this week to decide the top 12 finalists for American Idol. I think I might have said this once or twice before on this site but I absolutely hate results shows. What a waste of time. We could have found out all we needed to know in half an hour AND have heard the four contestants who got voted off sing their final songs.
The night started with a performance by Blake Lewis of “How Many Words.” I guess he was a former contestant on American Idol but since I never watched the show before this season I have no idea who he is. I have also never heard this song on the radio. Again, a time suck for a bloated results show.
After the performance we find out the first three men who make it through to the finals: David Cook, David Archuleta and Jason Castro. Ryan says that he spoke with Lionel Ritchie that day and he told him he loved David Cook’s performance of “Hello.” Well in my opinion that was a no brainer. It was such a great modern and updated take on a popular song.
The women are up next and we find out that Brooke White and Syesha are safe. Kady Malloy is sent packing and she does perform a final song.
Next the guys - David Hernandez (the gay male stripper or the guy who stripped at a gay male club - I still can’t figure out what the deal is) makes it through as well as Michael Johns. We find out the name of the first man eliminated - Luke Menard. I don’t think anyone will be too surprised with this result.
Up come the women and Ramiele, Carly and Amanda are all safe. The last spot comes down to Kristy Lee Cook and Asia’h Epperson, with Asia’h being sent home. She is very upset with the decision (and who would really blame a person for that, since this is the chance of their lifetime) and Ryan asks her if she is up to singing her farewell song. She does perform for the audience.
The men are down to Chikezie and Danny Noreiga for the last spot. Ryan announces Chikezie’s name but says nothing else and he nods his head and gives a smirk, as if he thinks he is the one who is going home. Ryan tells him to take a seat that he is safe. He and Danny hug for a bit because Danny is in tears. While he wasn’t given a choice otherwise, Danny does sing his farewell song.

Seriously. I remember when The Apprentice was doing like an hour and a half of audience shots and boring chats with contestants’ families and videos of people in their hometowns cheering, dragging out the wait for the results just so that Donald Trump could feel like more of a big shot. Just tell us already!
