American Idol: Atlanta Auditions
Mary J. Blige was the guest judge for the “American Idol” Atlanta auditions. Although Lamar Royal claimed to love MJ, his opinion changed after he was told no to Hollywood. They didn’t say he sucked or to never sing again, they just said he wasn’t ready. He had to be escorted out by security then responded with a cursing rant about how MJ couldn’t sing. Classy dude, classy.
Also told “no” by the judges was Dewone Robinson, whose uncle sang with Gladys Knight and the Pips, but he couldn’t sing his way out of a box. Jessie Hamilton was also told no, but at least the experience didn’t almost kill him (like three previous ones). Simon said Lathan Davenport’s singing was like a cat barking – it didn’t belong.
However, quite a few were told “yes” to Hollywood including Keia Johnson (who was just too cute!), Miriam Lemnouni, Noel Reese, Tisha Holland, Jermaine Sellers (who was a caretaker for his mom), Vanessa Wolfe (a country girl from a small town in TN – I liked her and so did Simon), Holly Harden (the human guitar – is it just me or is she channeling Kelly Pickler?), Mallorie Haley, Skiiboski (despite his name ad outfit), Carmen Turner (without her BFF Lauren Sanders), and Bryan Walker (the singing cop).
The most pleasant surprise of the night was we found this year’s viral hit – “Pants on the Ground.” This original was sung by the way too old General Larry Platt and in case you haven’t see it online already, has gone viral.
