American Idol CD has nice surprises
Finally, an “American Idol” cast album that doesn’t stink.
Shocking, actually, given that this is the season that gave us Scott Savol — although there still isn’t much that can be done for Scott with his limited range.
Pleasant surprises include Nikko Smith’s buoyant take on Stevie Wonder’s “Part-Time Lover,” Lindsey Cardinale’s aggressive “Knock on Wood” and Constantine Maroulis’ Toto-like take on “My Funny Valentine” which sports a more relaxed arrangement than the botched TV version.
