American Idol: Disco Night
I love disco and most the American Idols did it up right. The night started out with Lil singing “I’m Every Woman.” It seems like the same thing each week – the judges want her to sing a big song, but she can’t quite pull it off. Apparently Lil’s been sick and Paula said she made a nice recovery, but Simon felt this would be the last week we would see her.
Next up was Kris singing Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money.” I consider this more of an early 80s song than disco, even if it is Donna Summers. He made it his own and Kara and Paula liked it. Simon called it original and Randy said he was ready for the big time.
Danny sang “September.” Kara called it a solid performance and Paula loved his sexy voice, but Simon said it had no star power.
Allison also chose Donna Summer, singing “Hot Stuff.” I liked the arrangement, but Randy and Kara didn’t. Randy did say she was one of the best singer in the competition and Simon called it a brilliant performance.
Clean cut Adam appeared to sing “If I Can’t Have You.” Once again, he wowed both the audience and the judges. Paula looked like she might cry during the performance. Simon called it original and memorable with immaculate vocals. Randy told him he was ready right now (for the big time, I assume).
Matt sang “Staying Alive.” Randy didn’t love the song choice or the arrangement, but he said Matt could sing. He also said these seven are among the most talented they have had in any season. Kara called it a solid performance. Paula called it a strike, but Simon said he didn’t like it.
Anoop finished out the night with more Donna Summer – “Dim All the Lights.” Again, randy liked the vocals, but not the arrangement. Kara said it could be on the radio, but Simon called it “mediocre” at best and Anoop’s worst performance.
I think Lil is definitely in trouble this week. The judges just keep expecting more from her and she never seems to be able to deliver. She was an early favorite, but I think her time this season is up.
