American Idol: Final 8 Perform

This was Songs from the Year They Were Born week on “American Idol.” We not only got to see pics of the contestants when they were babies, we also go to see little Randy Jackson, little Kara DioGuardi, little Paula Abdul, and yes, even Simon Cowell was little at one time. It looked like he had on some sort of Sergeant Pepper’s uniform. And Ryan – what a weird looking little kid he was!

First up was Danny Gokey singing “Stand By Me.” Randy said Danny made him love it, even though he didn’t love the arrangement. Kara agreed and even Simon said it was great. Kris sang “All She Wants to do is Dance.” It was a funky version and the judges didn’t like it. Simon called it boring and forgettable. Lil took on Tina Turner with “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” Paula wanted more, but didn’t get it. Simon called it a second or third rate version of Tina. They want her to make an impression, not just do more karaoke.

Anoop sang “True Colors.” Oh, I hate that song, but he did okay. The judges liked his controlled version of the song. It was funny when Simon said he was like a singing yo-yo. Scott had to go all the way back to 1985. He did “The Search is Over.” He played the guitar instead of the piano. Kara said he had good and bad moments. Simon told him to go back to the piano because the song was horrible. Randy said it was just all okay.

Next up was my girl Allison. Good grief, she was born in 1992? I am feeling old now! She picked “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Paula said she made it her own and Simon said it was very good, but of course, he rained on her parade by insinuating she wasn’t likeable. Matt did “Part Time Lover” by Stevie Wonder. Randy called it vocally one of the best of the night and Kara called it unbelievable.

The night ended with Adam. I’d like to say he was incredible, but honestly I don’t know. For some reason, my DVR cut off Adam’s performance while I was tuned into “Biggest Loser.” I hate technology sometimes. I found a MTV live blog that said Adam sang “Mad World” and that Simon gave him a standing ovation. And I missed it!!!
