American Idol: Final Auditions
Well, if you love the auditions, you are out of luck – this was the last night. Next week, we see the tears flow as the 164 contestants chosen go to Hollywood and begin to crack under the pressure.
Some were given yellow tickets tonight’s show. Amy Davis came from a “lower than lower middle class” family and she was hoping this was her big shot to change things. She will find out in Hollywood. There was Katharine McPhee clone Cardin Lee McKinney, who Simon thought was a theatrical singer, but Paula and Randy put her through to Hollywood. Simon said no to plus size model JoAnne Borgella, but Paula thought she was stunning and Randy said she could sing, but her upper registry was small, but he thought she had potential. Then there was Chickesie Eze. Seriously, that CANNOT be his name. I thought he was good even if Simon said his voice wasn’t interesting.
Then of course, there were some bad singers. Poor Tiffany McCampbell said God gave her her voice, but Simon said if that were a gift from God, he would give it back. Ah, that Simon, ever so gentle, isn’t he? At least Tiffany kept her smile. I really didn’t like Alesha Stelzl and even my husband said “Did they really put her through to Hollywood?” Simon called her audition painful and dreadful, but Paula and Randy thought she sounded like Dolly Parton, so they made her go learn a Dolly song and come back. She sang “Islands in the Stream” and Paula and Randy loved her voice, so they put her through. Simon said after she left “I hate to admit it, but you were right.” I still didn’t see it and I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t see any more of Alesha. JSmoove said he had the “wow factor,” but it was more like “wow, he isn’t good, is he?” He threw confetti and glitter all over the floor, causing one of the funniest scenes of the night. Simon wanted Ryan to clean it up, but one of the workers came out to do it. Asking if they were on camera, Simon said he never allowed women to do work like that and cleaned it for her while Randy and Paula laughed at him. Asking if the camera was off and being told “yes,” Simon then gave her the broom back.
