American Idol: It’s Dolly!
Tonight, the Idols took on Dolly Parton. I don’t know what it is, but I just love Dolly. And not only is she a good singer, she is a very, very talented songwriter (as Simon attested later in the show). Although I must say, she needs to stop the plastic surgery before she turns into Priscilla Presley rubberface.
First up with Brooke with “Jolene.” I thought she did well, Randy said it was “awright,” but Simon said it lacked emotion. David C. sang “Little Sparrow,” which Randy called a hot performance, but Simon said it wasn’t as good as last week. Ramiele sang “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind.” It didn’t have Randy jumping up and down, but Paula said she was proud of her. Simon said no one would remember it in 10 years time. Yes, Simon was in a pissy mood tonight.
Next up was Jason with “Traveling Through.” Randy said it had a singer/songwriter vibe that he liked and Paula called it one of his strongest performances. Simon didn’t like it. Carly sang “Here You Come Again.” Randy said it could be one of the best of the night. Simon said it was good, not great. David A. sang “Smokey Mountain Memories,” to which Randy said he was wrong, THAT was the best performance of the night. This time, even Simon said David’s song choice was right on the money. Kristy Lee, who should have really shined tonight, was okay with “Coat of Many Colors.” Well, except Simon called it pleasant but forgettable.
Syesha took on the “biggest tiger of the night” as Randy said, singing “I Will Always Love You.” Randy said it was “awright,” Paula liked it, Simon said he almost wished she hadn’t done it because it was one of the best pop songs ever, but the second half paled. Last up was Michael, singing “It’s All Wrong but It’s All Right.” In my opinion, that was the best of the night. Randy said he keeps upping the bar each week and Paula called him a star.
Who’s going home? Just a guess, but I think Kristy Lee or Ramiele’s time is up this week.
