American Idol: Kris Allen is the New American Idol!
After missing the first 30 minutes of “American Idol” thanks to crummy cable service (ugh), it finally came on and I got to see Anoop and Alexis singing. I still think she got a raw deal leaving the show so soon.
Of course, I shouldn’t have been too upset about missing the first 30 minutes. I know it is going to be recap stuff, singing by the top 13, etc., but a friend said I missed Normal Gentle, one of my favorite contestants this season!
Kris sang with Keith Urban and the girls sang with Fergie and the rest of the Black Eyed Peas. I liked the little black and white maze people behind them.
Then, there were more Golden Idols to give out. Oh, not bikini girl again. Randy was pleased to see her. I think he even gave her a standing ovation. Ryan told her he was going to ask what was new, but he thought he knew (hint in case you didn’t see it: her breasts were bigger). But, was it really necessary to hear her sing again? Oh, I guess she did so Kara could show her up.
Allison sang with Cyndi Lauper, who I am convinced sold her soul to the devil because she looks as young as she did 25 years ago! Danny sang with Lionel Richie.
Adam sang “Beth” by KISS with a very, um, futuristic outfit. But then, I guess that was to help him blend in with the band. I wonder if Gene Simmons ever gets tired of sticking his tongue out like that. It has to get old after 35 years. Next up was Matt with Carlos Santana.
Win or lose, David Cook showed up to give Kris and Adam keys to a Ford Fusion Hybrid, so that is worth something.
Megan Joy sang again with Michael Sarver and oh my God, that is Steve Martin playing the banjo. I thought Ryan said Steve Martin and thought that was some new artist I didn’t know about! Just a FYI – Steve Martin, yes, that Steve Martin, has a Grammy for a musical performance. He won it for 2002’s Foggy Mountain Breakdown, on which he played banjo. He also wrote the song that Megan and Michael sang. That almost made it worth listening to Megan again – almost.
Next was Rod Stewart. Thank goodness he didn’t sing “Do Ya Think I’m Sexist?” because that ship sailed years ago.
They gave Tatiana a Golden Idol and Ryan said they were out of time, but she ran up and grabbed it. What a set up that was. Then she sang that same old sad Whitney Houston song. Guys with earpieces tried to lead her off stage, but she kept pulling away and singing before it cut to commercial.
Then, Kris and Adam sang “We are the Champions.” Oh wow, Brian May and Roger Taylor (from Queen) were there. If they were looking for a new lead singer, Adam would be a great choice!
After much fanfare, many, many performances, and even nice, sincere words from Simon, it was finally announced that after almost 100 million votes, the winner was Kris Allen. Wow, wow, wow. You have got to be kidding. Wow. And fireworks go off in Conway, Arkansas. Poor Kris, already humble and shy, was speechless.
Well, just know that this is not the last we have seen of Adam Lambert.
