American Idol: Most Popular Downloads Week

Maybe it is just me, but this was a weird theme this week on “American Idol.” Actually, it didn’t seem like much of a theme at all.

First up was Anoop with Usher’s “Caught Up.” I don’t know, I thought it was okay, just okay. Randy said it was good despite being the wrong song. Simon called it “a complete and utter mess.” Next up was Megan with Bob Marley/Lauren Hill’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low.” I’m sorry if you are reading this Megan, but like nails on a chalkboard to me. The judges must have felt the same way. Kara said she was in trouble with the wrong song. Paula said something about a stool that made little sense, but Simon and Randy said it was boring and indulgent. Danny sang Rascal Flatts’ “What Hurts the Most.” The judges loved it, even Simon said it was his best performance. I dunno – I am still not on the Danny train. Don’t ask me why – I can’t explain why he isn’t one of my favorites.

Allison, playing the guitar, did “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt. How did they find a dress to match her hair color? Not my favorite performance by her and she is one of my favorites. Randy said she was rushing the band a bit, but he seemed more messed up by her outfit. Paula felt she would skate to the finish line, but Simon went back to the outfit.

I loved that Scott did Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are.” It even looked like wardrobe tried to give him early Billy Joel hair. Regardless, I loved the performance. Kara said it was the right song. Simon called it his best performance “by a country mile.” Matt’s “You Found Me” by The Fray was not well received by the judges. I think they want him to be more R&B and he is trying to show what all he can do.

Lil did Celine Dion’s “I Surrender” and Kara said they saw a glimpse of the singer she can be. But, Simon thought it was a safe choice. Adam – good grief, this boy just blows the judges away every week. This week, it was with a 30 year old song – “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry. Randy said he was in the star zone. Not sure what Kara was talking about though when she said it was like “Studio 57” in there.

You would think it would be tough following Adam, but Kris blew them away with Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Why it is the most contemporary songs tonight were the oldest that the contestants gave new life?

Anyhow, I hate to say it because I do really like some of the other contestants, but unless the hand of God comes out of the sky to smack him down, Adam is going to be the next American Idol.
