American Idol: Omaha Auditions

Ten thousand people showed up, but judge Paula was late. Simon and Randy had to see Chris alone. Chris, who was about to explode with happiness, felt this audition was the greatest moment in his life so far. Chris needs to get out more. Poor thing couldn’t sing, but Simon told him to tell the local Fox affiliate that he wanted him to cover the finale. Should we rename him Saint Simon? I am not 100% sure I like the new kinder, gentler, Simon.

Farm boy Jason Rich forget the lyrics to his Keith Whitley’s song three times, but Saint Simon gave him chance after chance. Once he remembered the words, he was pretty good and is going to Hollywood, but Simon told him, he had used up all his chances.

There was arm wrestling in the holding room with champion Rachael Wicker beating everyone, even Ryan. Simon said her singing sounded like she was at the end of her career, but Randy and Paula liked her so she is off to Hollywood. However, former pro wrestler Sarah “Lady Morgue” Whitaker is not. She scared me. And did Paula really say “yes” to her going through?

For Samantha Sidley, Ryan and Paula switched places. Samantha surprised me with her voice and Ryan said yes to Hollywood before returning outside the door. Everyone else said yes too. Others that made it through were Elizabeth Erkert, Denise Jackson, and Michael Puente. Angelina Puente made it through by the skin of her teeth. Randy told her to quit mimicking other singers and Simon agreed.

Next up was David Cook, who reviewed Chris Daughtry’s audition for inspiration. He sang “Living on a Prayer” and actually, I liked him more than Chris (but then I have never been a Daughtry fan). Johnny Escamilla, in his gold lame jacket, was told by Simon that his audition was everything he hated – the jacket, the dancing, and the singing. Poor kid.

Last up was the “perfect homecoming queen” (not quite sure what THAT meant, but that is what his mom told him!), Leo Marlowe. Loved his voice and Simon said he not only was very good, but very open and he liked him. That is never a bad thing.
