American Idol: Orlando Auditions
Ten thousand people showed up for the “American Idol” Orlando auditions and although it was 2,000 less than Chicago, the talent was much bigger. Seth Rollins, who is hoping for a better life for his autistic son, was given a golden ticket as was Jermaine Purifoy, who Randy said was the best audition of the season for him. Shelby Dressel cannot use the right side of her face due to nerve damage, but she was good enough for the judges to send her to Hollywood.
Jay Stone was cool – loved his beatboxing. Simon wasn’t 100% convinced, but Kara was pulling for him and he got a golden ticket. So did Janelle Wheeler, Brittany Starr James, and Kasi Bedford as three contestants that got little airtime. I didn’t think Cornelius Edwards was that good, but his pants splitting dance move, which he learned from his adult dancing friends, got him to Hollywood. Sisters Amanda and Bernadette Desimone were cute, but they got on my nerves a bit. Even though Simon would have only sent one sister through, Kara and Randy decided to send both.
Matthew Lawrence robbed a bank with a BB gun when he was 15 and served four years for it. He auditioned for “American Idol” in hopes of making his family happy after making them sad when he was younger. He succeeded by pleasing the judges, especially Simon who called his performance “brilliant.”
Theo Glinton, with glass circles and a feather glued to his face, did not impress the judges with his “singing.” However, he was not the most embarrassing contestant of the night. That honor goes to Jarred Norrell. Despite several “nos” from the judges, he just wouldn’t quit singing “Amazing Grace.” Randy finally called for security, but he still didn’t go peacefully. He was finally handcuffed and lead out by about four guys including a cop.
