American Idol: Shocking Results!
This week, over 70 million votes poured in for American Idol contestants. The show featured Ellen Degeneres at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with such acts as Earth, Wind, and Fire, Kelly Clarkson, Rascal Flatts, and Annie Lennox. They raised over $30 million for Idol Gives Back. I don’t mean to sound harsh, I think it is incredible that they are raising the money for such a worthy cause, but honestly, $30 is less than Simon makes in one year JUST from American Idol. I know Ellen said she was giving $100,000, but was Simon giving anything? How about Randy, Ryan, or Paula? They’ve all made a nice chunk of change off the American Idol name as well.
I liked the Ben Stiller skit – that was hilarious, but then he always cracks me up. I am usually annoyed by Jack Black, but even his little skit was funny. The “amazing” duet was Celine Dion and the ultimate American Idol – Elvis. Actually, it looked pretty cool. They took footage of Elvis from 1968 and blurred Celine a bit so it looked good.
All night, Ryan kept talking about a “shocking result” as far as the votes went. My husband wanted to know if they were going to get rid of Sanjaya again. Nah, in fact, the camera kept cutting to Sanjaya in the audience – still getting face time, eh kid? The “shocking result” came down to Chris and Jordin as to who was leaving. When Ryan said, “Chris…you are safe,” you could have heard a pin drop in the building. But, turns out, Jordin was safe as well. All the votes from this week go towards the tally for next week and next week, we lose two Idols. I think Blake and Lakisha had better make a great showing or they may be the two leaving.
