American Idol: The Final 12 of the Original 36 Perform
Still doing the Billboard Hot 100 hits in the last round to make the Top 12 on “American Idol:”
Von Smith
Is it just me or does Von Smith look like he could be an Osmond? He didn’t want to yell like he did in Hollywood and he didn’t – it was almost too soft at first, but then he picked it up. Randy said it was a hot performance. Simon said he reminded him of Clay Aiken.
Taylor Vaifanua
Oh, the nerves got to her at first, but she seemed to work it out by the end. Kara said she had a voice, but wanted more personality. And can you really tell what it is like to go shopping with someone by hearing them sing as Kara suggested? Simon didn’t get it either. Paula brought up that she did this song in Hollywood. Simon said the song was bland and she was trying to be too old. Ryan tried to cut Randy off – that was kinda funny.
Alex Wagner-Trugman
Oh, this was…um, different. Paula called him a showman. Simon said “We had fun watching you, just not listening to you.” He mentioned the growl – I wondered myself about the growl. Randy called it “buck wild” and mentioned him knocking the mic stand over. Oh, the look on his little face was so sad…
Arianna Afsar
She looked scared after she sang. Simon said it was “absolutely terrible,” that the song was too big for her. I had to laugh aloud when he said it was like being at a funeral. Oh no, she got the same look that Alex had! Randy said it was the wrong song and wasn’t good. Kara was missing her sunshiny smile. Paula tried to be positive and say she had some bright moments to the song.
Ju’not Joyner
I found this performance to be a little too reserved, but the judges loved the fact that Ju’not held back. Simon said it was better than he expected and Kara said she loved the spin he put on it.
Kristin McNamara
Kara thought she was a great singer, but wanted something more rock-like. Simon said he still couldn’t figure out who she was and Randy agreed, calling it kinda karaoke and then sucked his teeth (never a good sign). They still didn’t like her outfit – poor girl.
Nathaniel Marshall
Simon said the majority of those listening would have found this performance excruciating as he did and made mention of the Olivia Newton John headband, which Ryan later tried to put on Simon’s head. Randy called him fun and Nathaniel said if we wanted fun, to vote for him, but personally, I found Norman Gentle to be more fun.
Felicia Barton
Simon said she came back with something to prove as Felecia was cut, but returned to replace Joanna. Randy said she had an “amazing voice’ and called the performance “hot.”
Scott MacIntyre
I like this guy – he just seems so…likeable. Randy said it was not the most perfect vocal, but really great and that he felt the passion. Simon said he was not crazy about the song choice, but Scott was growing on him and that he will be one he remembers from tonight.
Kendall Beard
Kendall is carrying the female badge for country music, but the judges were so-so on her performance. Kara said she had a big personality, but note issues and Simon said that half way through the song, he was ready for it to be over. But then again, country isn’t Simon’s thing.
Jorge Nunez
Wow, he did really good – I was impressed. I thought Paula was going to cry as she told him how proud she was of him working with a dialect coach. Simon said he thought they were wrong to ask him to not sing with an accent. Jorge was so excited about the praise from the judges that he cried. It was cute when he said that when he got excited, he had to speak in Spanish.
Lil Rounds
I knew that unless Lil Rounds choked during her song, she was going to knock it out of the park and she did. Simon called it “brilliant” and Randy said she was one of the best they found this season.
Lil will make it through to the Top 12 – no doubt. I think for the guys, Scott will make it and I am hoping the third place vote getter will be Jorge.
