American Idol: The Music of Bon Jovi

I was apprehensive about tonight’s show.  After all, the Bon Jovi music I know is all rock and the crowd left on American Idol is…well…less than a rock crowd.  Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by many of the performances.  Phil started the night off well with “Blaze of Glory,” despite what Simon said.  While Randy and Paula thought it was really one of his best performances, Simon said it was okay and he didn’t know if it would be enough to save him this week.  Jordin poor Jordin - she made a bad song choice. She choose “Living on a Prayer” and it was just too much for her.  The judges admired that she went outside her comfort zone and tackled it, but as Simon said, it was terrible.  We finally saw a crack in the 17 year old’s singing armour.

I didn’t care for Lakisha’s performance, but Randy thought she was back this week and Simon even gave her a kiss. I was really, really scared before Blake’s performance.  Even Jon Bon Jovi seemed unsure of Blake’s take on “You Give Love a Bad Name.”  I hate when people mix up songs I know and love, but Blake hit this one out of the park.  He kept just enough of the song true to itself to keep from ruining it.  Randy said it was the most original version ever on American Idol, Paula said it was amazing, and Simon said he loved it and it would keep Blake in the competition.

Chris had the unfortunate task of singing “Wanted Dead or Alive.”  Simon said he did all he could with it, but he was not sure it was enough to keep him on another week.  It just felt flat to me.  Since the girl’s seemed to understandably struggle this week, I was worried about Melinda, but she did great.  I told hubby right after she started out that she had a little Tina Turner thing going on, then both Randy and Simon mentioned that.

Who’s going home this week?  Well, they are going to combine the votes from last week with this week and two contestants are going home.  Melinda is safe, I don’t think there is any doubt about that.  I think Phil is safe and I think Jordin has enough people voting for her, despite this week’s poor showing.  That leaves Chris, Blake, and Lakisha.  I think Chris did better last week, but Blake did better this week.  Neither week did much for me as far as Lakisha.  So, I am going to say tonight is the end of the road for Lakisha and Chris.
