American Idol: The Top 13 Perform
This was our first view of the “American Idol” Top 13 and most of them did not disappoint. The song choices were from the Michael Jackson catalog.
I thought Paula was going to cry when she talked about Danny and Adam. Both did well, but I personally preferred Adam’s performance to Danny’s. Lil started out the night and she is strong, but I think she got a bit lost after some of the other performances, even though Paula said she sang like an angel and Kara hoped we would get to hear her on the radio. Scott was second and Scott is one of my favorites, along with Allison, Adam, Alexis, and Jorge. He just seems so at ease on stage. Paula said it was magical to see him play the piano, but Simon, while liking his vocals, hated the song because it was not well known. Next up was Danny. Simon called the vocals brilliant, but said Danny’s dancing was hideous. Good thing he isn’t on “Dancing with the Stars!”
Michael performed after Danny and Simon said he was not the best singer in the competition, but made up for it with passion, heart, and gave 110%. Randy liked his return to R&B swagger. Jasmine was told by Randy that she did a pretty good job while Simon called her a bit robotic and reminded her she needed to act her age.
Kris brought out his guitar and Kara said the girls loved him. But, Simon said he should have hidden his wife for a few more weeks. Allison – man, this girl is incredible! Randy called her the one to watch and I agree 100%. Anoop chose to sing “Beat It,” which may be his undoing. All the judges agreed it was karaoke, with Simon calling it a “bit stupid.” But take heart, Anoop, yours wasn’t the only performance he called stupid tonight. Jorge was next and while I liked the performance, the judges didn’t really care for it. Kara said she didn’t feel the emotional connection while Simon called it corny and old fashioned. Megan was up next. Paula loved her quirky and unique tone, but Simon said it was awkward, a “stupid” song choice, and said the vocals weren’t good.
Adam blew everyone away; with Randy telling him “you got it” and Simon saying he was in a totally different league from everyone else tonight. Matt had to follow that, but he did well, with Randy saying he had the whole Justin Timberlake thing going on and Simon saying it was a very good, solid performance. Alexis was last and I thought she did well, but Simon called it over-the-top (and I think it was him that said that to do Michael Jackson properly, you had to be over-the-top – go figure!) while Randy called it good, but not great.
Who’s going home? I hate to say it because I like him, but I think it may be Anoop. I personally think Megan’s performance was just as bad, but people like her because she is so cute. Jasmine or Michael could be in jeopardy as could Jorge, although I am hoping he will pull out enough votes to stay.
