American Idol: Top 10 Guys Sing
Time for the top 10 guys to perform and the night’s theme was classic songs from the 70s. First up was my favorite Michael Johns. He sang “Go Your Own Way.” As it seems to have been this season, Randy and Paula liked it, but Simon said it was his weakest performance. Was it just me or did it seem like Simon spent most of the night with his thumb stuck in his ear? Jason Castro sang “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” while playing the guitar. Randy thought it was okay with the guitar, but didn’t like the vocals and Simon thought the song was “horrible.” This kid has a cute face, can’t they do something with that hair? Luke Menard sang “Killer Queen,” but Randy said he liked him better last week. Simon slammed him with the comment “The singer of that song had charisma and personality, you didn’t.” Ouch, I agree Simon, but just ouch! Luke’s voice just wasn’t strong enough to carry that song.
Robbie Carrico sang “Hot Blooded.” Again disagreeing, Randy said it was just okay, Paula thought he played it safe, yet Simon said the vocals were okay. Can they do something with his hair too? Danny Noriega, who surprisingly enough used to be in a punk band, sang “Until You Come Back to Me.” Paula thought he was over thinking the song, but Simon said it was better than last week. Perhaps the best of the night was David Hernandez. He sang “Papa was a Rolling Stone,” which we heard over and over on Dance War, but he did a good job. Even Simon said it was the best vocal of the night. Jason Yeager sang “Long Train Runnin.” Randy thought it had pitch problems and Simon said it was awkward and ordinary.
We found out Chikezie’s name is actually Nigerian and means “something well created by God.” Wow, that is cool. He sang “I Believe,” which all three judges loved. David Cook sang “All Right Now.” While Randy and Paula liked it, (surprise), Simon said he didn’t have a lot of charisma. David Archuleta sang “Imagine.” He got rave reviews from the judges, but it was a bit creepy that Paula wanted to hang him from her rear view mirror.
I don’t know who is going home this week, but I hope it isn’t Michael. Luke had an off night, as did Jason, despite the guitar. I really didn’t care for Robbie’s song tonight, but a one thing is for sure – Chikezie, David H., and David A. aren’t going anywhere yet.

Yeah - Hot Blooded AND Killer Queen need not just a strong voice but a lot of sass to put them over. They’re great if you know you have that in your court, but if you just want to show off your voice it exposes you as not having a good sense of *performance*.
