American Idol: Top 12 Girls

It was the girl’s turn. Kristy Lee Cook and Carly Smithson – the first and last to perform – were both sick. Kristy sang “Rescue Me” to lackluster reviews. Randy said there were pitch problems and Simon didn’t like it. But, Randy called Carly the best vocal of the entire 24 and Paula praised it as well. Simon still didn’t get it, but then he was very hard to please last night.

Joanne Borgella sang “I Say a Little Prayer,” which Randy said was weird and shaky. Again, Simon didn’t like it. Alaina Whitaker sang “More Today Than Yesterday.” Although she is the youngest contestant, all three judges thought she was very good. Simon said the song was corny, which led to a tiff between him and Paula, but… Rocker Amanda Overmyer promised to stay away from Janis Joplin, which seems like a shame, and sang “Baby Please Don’t Go.” Everyone one liked her with Paula and Simon both saying she was genuine. I liked Amy Davis’ version of “Where the Boys Are” but I admit it was a bit dreary. I thought she did a good job, but Simon called it cabaret. Brooke White sang “So Happy Together.” Randy said she got her “slay on,” but Simon said it sounded like a washing-up liquid commercial. That turned out to not necessarily be a bad thing, he just meant it was very cheery like Brooke. For some reason, her sunny outlook pisses off Simon.

Alexandrea Lushington was called “relevant” by both Randy and Paula, but again, Simon “didn’t get it.” He said it was awful and the vocals weren’t great. Kady Malloy was told she got lost in the song and that she was great when she was Britney, she just needed to be more Kady. She looked confused by those comments. Asia’h Eppington was told by Simon she was his favorite of the night. Well, that is until Ramiele Malubay came on. Simon told her she outsang everyone else tonight, even though he didn’t like her at first. Syesha Mercado was a bit pitchy according to Randy, but still seems to have the judges on her side.

I am not sure who will be leaving – maybe Kristy Lee or Amy. This episode was either blow it out of the water or just lukewarm it seems.
