American Idol: Top 12 Perform
They unveiled a new set tonight – pretty snazzy with the band up in the “penthouse” now. Tonight’s theme was songs from the Lennon/McCartney songbook.
First up was Syesha with “Got To Get You Into My Life.” Randy and Paula thought it was pitchy at first then she smoothed it out. Simon thought it was better than last week. Next up was Chickezie with his Delta bluesy version of “She’s a Woman.” That blew the judges away, even though Simon said he looked like he was complete drunk. Ramiele bored the judges with her version of “In My Life.” Simon told Jason his version of “If I Fell” was like a student in his bedroom at midnight, Randy liked it, not loved it, and Paula said it showed his heart. Carly too blew the judges away with her version of “Come Together.” Simon said she finally chose the right song.
David C. sang “Eleanor Rigby,” but while Randy thought it was pitchy, Paula called him the dark horse and Simon said it was brilliant. David H’s “I Saw Her Standing There” was dubbed overdone by Randy and Paula, with Simon saying it was “corny verging on desperate.”
Why do they clown up Amanda? She looked like she was in pants left over from The Monkees set. While Paula thought “You Can’t Do That” was brilliant and Randy said it was rocked out in a southern bar way, Simon said she slurred her words, but was a breath of fresh air each week. Michael sang “Across the Universe.” Randy and Simon kept waiting for him to do something more with it, but Paula thought it was brilliant. Kristy Lee got slammed for countryfying “Eight Days a Week.” David A. sang “We Can Work It Out” but stumbled over the lyrics and Randy said it felt forced.
I don’t even know why Kristy Lee is still in the competition and I think this will be her week to leave.
