American Idol: Top 5 Perform
Well, Simon said it was the strangest show they had ever done and man, he wasn’t kidding. I wasn’t really impressed with any of the contestants performances. I know Neil Diamond music can be a bit…slow, but honestly, tonight wasn’t good.
Ryan has said he would let contestants sing both their songs, then as the judges’ opinions. Jason Castro sang “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “September Morn.” David Cook sang “I’m Alive” and “All I Really Need is You.” Brooke White sang “I’m a Believer” and “I Am I Said.” David Archuleta sang “Sweet Caroline” and “America.” Syesha Mercado sang “Hello Again” and “Thank the Lord for the Nighttime.”
After round one, Ryan asked the AI judges to quickly say what they thought about the first song. Randy said Jason’s was just okay. Paula said she was glad to see his lower range, and then started talking about song two – the song he hadn’t sang yet. It was a most uncomfortable moment. Randy corrected her and Paula, in a totally blonde moment, said, “Oh my God, I thought you sang twice.” Simon looked as if he were in physical pain. They didn’t let Paula say what she thought about any more of the first songs, but Simon seemed to hate them all with “better than average” being the best compliment (for David Cook).
Each Idol sang their second song, but most didn’t heed Simon’s advice to come out and sing the performance of a lifetime. Simon called both of Jason’s songs forgettable, but loved David’s second performance. I dunno, I am just not feeling the love for David Cook. Since Simon thought Brooke’s first song was a “nightmare,” naturally she fared better on the second one. Randy thought David Archuleta was “da bomb” and “in the zone” on both songs. Paula and Simon both felt like his second song was a smart choice. Syesha was again theatrical this week, but Simon said he thought it might put her in danger.
I think the two in trouble this week are Jason and Syesha, although Brooke could change places with either one, depending on fan votes.
