American Princess Week 3: Tara is kicked off the show
Week 3 of American Princess had the judges challenging the mental toughness of the girls with a pop quiz. I’m really surprised how little the girls knew, but even more shocking to me is that some of the girls knew answers to questions that I did not know. I’m thinking that maybe I should spend a bit more time watching CNN and a bit less time watching my reality televisions shows – not!
The judges gave the girls the night off since it’s been really hard on them. Yes ladies, living in a mansion and being able to go to events that most only read about or dream about attending is tough. Having to sit through a lesson to learn how to speak more clearly is very demanding. Give me a break. But I digress yet again. The girls get kind of drunk and wild and some of the true natures of these ladies start to show. Nakia and Letoshua try to cause some problems with the girls, and the fighting comes back with them to the home. Jean comes in to see what is going on and to settle things down.
Sensing a problem Paul and Jean call in the big guns – a former Army Staff Sergeant to put the girls through princess boot camp. Now when they first said princess boot camp I thought maybe it would be things like learning how to apply false eyelashes or when you should select open toed shoes versus closed toe shoes. I was wrong. The ladies were subject to some physical training and challenges. The test was an obstacle course. Two winners would be named – the contestant who completed it the fastest and the one who gave the most effort. Since Letoshua is former military she kicked some butt and won the fastest time. Jasmine was given the award for most effort, having overcome her fear of heights to complete the obstacle course. These two were treated to massages at a day spa, while the remaining contestants were forced to polish combat boots.
Next the girls are taken to a salon in London to get some help with their image. Wai Kan, a make up artist, worked with each of the girls individually to give them some advice and help. Each girl was sent home with a big goody bag full of cosmetics. The girls were also subjected to waxing sessions, having it performed by a fellow competitor. Some of the girls got just a bit too excited over inflicting the pain from the hot wax.
The girls are then brought to the Royal Opera House for a ballet lesson by former principal dancer of the Royal Ballet Deborah Bull. Most of the girls have no experience in ballet but many make the effort to learn the steps and perform them to the best of their ability. Nakia shares with the audience that she used to be a stripper/pole dancer. Hmm….enough said.
The next challenge for the girls is to participate in a receiving line after a performance of the Royal Ballet. Some of the girls do really well, while others are kind of obnoxious. I was impressed that Clarissa bought a program and memorized the names of the principal dancers. I thought that was a very smart move on her part, and the judges recognized this effort in the elimination deliberations.
Tara was eliminated from the show, mainly because she was acting the role of a princess or how she thought a princess should act. Plus she was kind of uptight and never really let loose or let us see her personality. I’m sure she’s a great girl but she was also trying to win a competition. Since she’s a theater arts major I’m sure that acting is very natural for her and probably was the way she thought she could do well in the competition.
