American Idol: More Beatles Hits

Well, I don’t know about you, but I am tired of the Beatles. Even Simon said maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. Many of the contestants were just so-so. Amanda started the night with “Back in the USSR” but Simon told her she was in danger of becoming boring and even Randy and Paula said it started a little pitchy. Kristy Lee was up next with “You Got to Hide Your Love Away.” Thank goodness, she didn’t country this one up too much. Randy said she needed to show a little more emotion and Simon said she was like musical wallpaper – you hear her, but don’t remember it.

David A. redeemed himself this week with “The Long and Winding Road.” He was one of the few bright spots this week. Michael sand “A Day in the Life” – I know the song was jumbled up, but it sounded to me like he mixed up some lyrics accidentally. It was so bad, Paula thought his earpiece was messing him up until she learned he wasn’t wearing one. I hate that – I like Michael. Maybe the teenage girls will save him this week.

Next up was Brooke with “Here Comes the Sun.” It seemed like a song written just for her, but Randy said it was awkward and Simon said it was terrible, forgettable, and wet…whatever that means. David C. sang “Day Tripper” and while he looked like a star on stage, Simon said he didn’t think it was as good as David thought it was. Carly sang “Blackbird.” Randy and Paula loved it, but Simon said it was indulgent and not a smart song choice. Jason sang “Michelle” and Simon said the only thing that saved it was that his face sold the song. Syesha sang “Yesterday,” which was another bright spot of the night. Even Simon said it was probably her best so far.

Chikezie sang “I’ve Just Seen a Face” and played the harmonica. It was as Randy said a weird arrangement. It was like R&B for a minute, then rockabilly, then bluegrass. Paula said it showed all his sides, but Simon said the harmonica playing was atrocious. Ramiele finished up the night with “I Should Have Known Better.” Randy said it showed more confidence and Paula said it was better than last week, but Simon called it amateurish.
