An awesome final for season 4 of Dancing With The Stars
Tonight’s finals did not disappoint me as a viewer, although I think the show did have some disappointments for the judges. Len Goodman really needs to take a pill. I’m not sure he knows what he wants when it comes to the performances, and what he wants changes from week to week. And I think the judges are starting to really feel self important and are no longer content to be the supporting players in this reality television show – they want to be the stars.
Now that I have begun to get some things off my chest, let me continue with my thoughts.
Laila and Maks. First I loved the Paso Doble. I really liked the fact that the music was Spanish. I hate watching a dance and not being able to tell what it is by the song that is selected. I think they both looked great in their first dance and had a really good performance. The judges really liked this first number as well. As for their second number, the judges were not as kind to Laila and Maks as I thought they should have been. Here’s where I saw an example of the judges trying to be the stars of the show. Laila and Maks did a great freestyle routine to a Michael Jackson number. Maks is an awesome dancer and the tearing off of the shirt at the end was just a nice little bonus for all us Maks fans out there! More Maks! But I digress. The judges said they were disappointed in her choice of routine, that she should have chosen something a bit more elegant. I think they got this thought in their silly old heads and caused them to judge her routine more harshly. I don’t think they judged the dancing that was done, because if they did so they would have gotten at least all 9’s if not 10’s.
I was also disturbed by some of the things Laila said in reference to her body type and size. I think she looks great – she is a beautiful woman with a killer body. I think it would be safe to assume that most women in America would be satisfied if not ecstatic to look like her. By who’s standards is she too big? I think Maks did a great job with the lift – he seems as if he’s a strong enough guy that she doesn’t need to look as if she would break in two to be lifted. Laila you look awesome just as you are. As far as I’m concerned you don’t need to apologize for the way you look or your body. Just my two cents worth.
Apolo and Julianne. Is it me or does it seem like Len has it out for Apollo? Last week he criticizes them for being too sexy, so this week they have a subtle approach in their rumba and now he’s complaining that he doesn’t see the romance? What is his problem, other than lack of company of a romantic partner? The judges did get it right when they gave Apolo and Julianne perfect scores for their freestyle routine.
Joey and Kym. What can you say about Joey – he’s just Joey. I actually agreed with the judges and their comments that his Cha Cha seemed more like a freestyle routine. Mind you I truly enjoyed the Cha Cha but it wasn’t your traditional, run of the mill, proper Cha Cha. His freestyle routine was just amazing. I loved their disco routine. You knew that there was no way those two were going to do the entire performance in the conservative clothes they had on at the beginning of the number. A well deserved perfect score from the judges – old cranky pants Len said he would have scored it higher if possible.
The judges will score one more performance by each couple tomorrow night to determine the final judges’ scores for the competition. As it stands right now Apolo is in the lead, followed by Joey and then Laila. Of course that can change in a heartbeat with the fans votes. So everyone reading this – go out and vote for Apollo!
