Andrea is eliminated from Top Chef in episode 2
This week the contestants were tested on their presentation skills, in both the Quickfire and Elimination Challenges. The Quickfire Challenge had the eleven remaining contestants creating a dessert fruit plate in 30 minutes. The judge for the challenge was Elizabeth Faulker, the owner of Citizen Cake in San Francisco. As always, the winner of the Quickfire Challenge will get immunity from elimination that week. Steven created this plate that was very different from everyone else and won the challenge. In doing so we got a glimpse of Steven as he commented on his win – a very arrogant, cocky and almost un-likeable person. Personally I thought Harold should have won this challenge. I don’t know too much about cooking but I do know his plate looked great and consisted of things I would actually eat.
The Elimination Challenge was quite interesting. The contestants were given the task of creating a “sexy” dessert for a party of interesting people. The location: a famous S&M shop in San Francisco known as Mr. S. Madame S would be the hostess of the party and also the ultimate judge of the winner.
Some of the contestants were subtle in their creation and presentation. Some went for the “naughty” names. And some just went way over the top. Tiffani created cookie necklaces that had to be eaten off another party guest. Great idea – except the cookies tasted awful and fell apart. Miguel was in a league of his own in terms of presentation and interaction. That’s probably the reason he won. Of course, his references to domination might not have hurt either.
The four contestants called to the judges table to face elimination were Lisa, Cynthia, Dave and Andrea. Ultimately Andrea was eliminated. I guess the whole natural food thing is great but doesn’t really play well in a four star type environment.
