Biggest Loser Couples: Laura Goes Home with a Stress Fracture

Tonight was Makeover night on the “Biggest Loser.” But first, the contestants had a chance to win a $25,000 makeover for their kitchen. They had to walk on a wire while holding on to an overhead wire from one hill to another. Filipe was in the lead, but Tara caught up to him. Was I the only one hoping she would fall? Anyhow, she didn’t and she won. I hate that.

The Makeovers were the usual – Macy’s with Tim Gunn. Of course, he made them look incredible and each contestant got a $1,000 gift card to Macy’s. Tara’s mom lost 40 pounds and Mike’s brother was upset because he felt like he was the fat one of the family now. But, Mike promised that he and dad Ron would help Max lose weight.

While Filipe, who promised to do his best, in part to help Bob have a winner and to avenge Sione’s exit last week, may not have won the challenge, the person who ousted Sione was taken out this week.

Laura learned she had a stress fracture in her hip, so she couldn’t do anything that caused her hip to hurt, which pretty much meant she couldn’t do anything. At the weigh-in, Mike and Filipe had to carry her up the stairs. And yet, she pleaded to stay when she fell below the yellow line with Kristin. I think it would have been classier to have realized she couldn’t do anything and gracefully ask them to send her home, but she wanted to stay and Tara fought for her.

The vote was tied 2-2 and it came down to Filipe. Naturally, he voted for Laura and sent her home. Personally, I didn’t find the whole hip fracture that tragic. Jillian cried during the weigh-in when Laura gained 3 pounds, but the girl lost 77 pounds – for free, got a Macy’s gift card for new clothes, and has the knowledge to keep her weight down. How is that tragic? Yes, she is hurt, but she went home and found out though use of Biggest Loser doctors that she is healing and going through physical therapy, which I am sure Biggest Loser paid for. I mean, I am not happy she got hurt, but like the doctor said, when you are working out on an athletes’ scale, stuff can happen.

“personally” you don’t think a stress fracture tragic?! have ever had a stress fracture? Have you ever worked for something so hard and then find out it’s all been taken away from you because you put too much effort into it? apparently not. I suggest you get your butt out and start exercising at the intensity level that these contestants are, and maybe you can feel some empathy for Laura, rather than criticizing her hard work.

I never criticized her hard work, I merely said what happened was not tragic. Tragic is the massacre in Mumbai, tragic is what happened in at Virginia Tech, tragic is people in Sierra Leone that are starving to death – a stress fracture for someone that got a free ride to a new life is sad, but not tragic.

All she “lost” was a chance at the winner’s money. What she won is the possibility of adding years to her life by getting healthy.

    4. Virgo Says:

I agree Libbles! These people’s eating habits could verge on ‘tragic’ but it’s not actually the act, it’s the result. I’ve had a couple stress fractures in my life and it’s painful, bothersome, and somewhat dehabilitating. Still far from tragic.
