Biggest Loser Couples: The Biggest Season Ever…Literally!
Tonight was the premiere of the newest season of Biggest Loser and it was couples again – husbands and wives, best friends, cousins, mothers and daughters, etc. There was the heaviest contestant ever, Daniel, weighing in at 453 pounds. There was the heaviest female contestant ever, Carla weighing in at 379. Carla took the heaviest title from Kristin, who weighted in at 360 – 62 pounds heavier than any female contestant ever until Carla weighed. There was also the youngest contestant ever, Mike, who at only 18 years old weighs 388 pounds. The two oldest contestants ever were also on tonight – Jerry and Estella, who are both 63 years old.
The teams were instructed to go into the gym without the trainers and workout on their own. Of course, Bob and Jillian were watching on a hidden camera and freaking out. Poor Jerry’s blood pressure dipped, he got dizzy, and actually passed out for a minute.
For the first challenge, the teams had to run across a bridge that had a huge sand mound on it. They had to both stand by their team flag on the other side of the mound before running back. The first five teams to do it would move to a second round, and then the top two teams would compete for the prize – immunity! It came down to the Black and Yellow teams and the ending was almost a photo finish, with the Black team barely winning. After the challenge, the teams went to see Dr. H. for the bad news about their bodies.
At the weigh-in, the teams were told that there would be no eliminations tonight, but that 9 people were going home. The Black team was safe since they had immunity. One other team, the one that was above the yellow line, would stay intact, but the other teams below the yellow line had to choose one person to go home. I didn’t like this part – it got better after the weight in, but I still thought it sucked. After the weigh in, the teams were told that in 30 days, if the one teammate was still at the ranch, the at home partner got to return. But, really – they have the biggest people ever on this show and they are going to send almost half of them home after the first episode? I know, I know, you have to learn how to do it on your own, but couldn’t they have pulled this trick last season when the contestants weren’t so big?
Anyhow, at the weigh-in, there were some BIG numbers put up there. Daniel lost 30 pounds, but Ron, who weighed 430, did better – he lost 32 pounds, the most ever in one week. Jerry lost 25 pounds, putting him and Estella above the yellow line until the Green team beat them. The Green team’s success was short lived when Ron and Mike lost a combined total of 54 pounds for 6.60% – that gave them the win.
The Pink team sent home Shannon, the Blue team sent home Sione, the Green team sent home Laura, the Yellow team sent home Aubrey, the Red team sent home Nicole, the Orange team sent home David, the Silver team (didn’t they use to be the Gray team?) sent home Carla (yes, the one that weighed 379!), the Purple team sent home Cathy, and the White team sent home Estella.
