Bo killed off Soap Star this week

I never really understood what goes into being a good actor.  I remember back in high school trying out for a school play only to be cast as an orphan in Oliver Twist.  I never really thought about the script, or emotions, or motivations.  That’s why I never made it anywhere with acting and why I think the show I Wanna Be A Soap Star is so fascinating.

Tonight the remaining five contestants had to do a scene in which they played drunk.  Linda Dano, the Emmy award winning daytime actress, gave the contestants some good insight into how to play a drunken character.  She talked about layers and motivations and emotions – things I would not have thought about.  Then again that’s why I’m home WATCHING the show and only have orphan in Oliver Twist to my acting credits.

I thought everyone gave a pretty good performance tonight, and I thought the judges did as well.  All the comments they seemed to give out during the critique were pretty positive, but when you got down to elimination time there were some pretty critical statements made.  However, is this how it really happened or how the producers of the show want us to see it through their editing of the show?  My favorite performer tonight was Yves.  I thought finally he has broken out of his shell and showed the talent he obviously had to have to be on this show.  The judges really seemed to like Jimena, but all I could think about was the comments they made to her in week one about her hair.  Tonight her hair was kind of in her face during the scene.  I guess that doesn’t matter anymore.  She really didn’t move me that much tonight. She was good, just not my favorite.

During elimination Ashlee and Bo were asked to step forward, and then Cameron Mathison announces very quickly that Bo was the person killed off this week.  When we got a glimpse into the judges’ deliberations we did see Michael Bruno kind of fighting for Bo (as he promised him he would do) but I’ve seem him get a lot more passionate about others when defending them during elimination.  The judges said they pulled Ashlee out to shake her up and thus hopefully get her to finally relax and let loose a bit.

The final four contestants were treated to some margaritas made by Giovanni, “The Margarita King”.  Never heard of him, but the drinks must have been pretty good because they had a great time making fun of everyone and everything about the show.  I thought they did a really accurate job at portraying the judges and Cameron.  Heck, they are actors so they should be good at doing parodies of people.

Next week looks hysterical.  The remaining four contestants are going to have to work with children (who look to be about 2 years old).  Heaven help them if they are two.  I have two children that are 2 years old and let me tell you this – they do not do what you want, when you want and how you want it.  You cross your fingers and hope for the best.
