Corey and Patricia are killed off tonight’s episode of I Wanna Be A Soap Star
The contestants on tonight’s episode of I Wanna Be a Soap Star were given the challenge of performing a scene with a foreign accent. The accent they had to use was a Russian accent. Let me begin by saying this – I had the opportunity to visit Russia twice and spent about 30 days total in that country. I did not believe in the scene that was performed that the accent was a true Russian accent. A few of the actors were passable, but that’s it.
In order to help the contestants prepare for this scene they were given the opportunity to work with acting coach Eric M. Stuart and dialect coach Robert Easton. Easton comes into the room using a Russian accent, and he did sound genuine. Maybe if the contestants had more time to work on the accent it would have been successful. Plus there’s a way a Russian carries himself or herself that is different from the way an American carries himself. I can’t quantify it any further. When I was in Russia it was really easy to spot the other Americans in the area. You could see them a mile away. There’s a difference and that’s all I can say. It’s not good or bad, just different. I guess I should get off this kick and talk about the show, huh? You’re reading this blog to see my opinion of the show, not my opinion on other things.
The actors were randomly paired up to perform the scene – two siblings pretending to be Russian spies to find out information about who killed their father. There was a third character in the scene, a British man, played by veteran Days of Our Lives actor Thaao Penghlis. Here’s how the contestants were paired up:
Joyce and Bo
Justin and Travis
Corey and Patricia (second time they worked together)
Yves and Ashlee
Monica and Jimena
Each contestant selected their own wardrobe and did their own hair and makeup for the scene. I noticed that Jimena really took the judges and their comments to heart and wore her hair pulled up in a pony tail.
A few people really were good tonight (at least in my opinion). Travis was right on with his performance – I disagreed with Mary Beth Evans that he was flat in the beginning. Justin did a great job with him as well in the scene.
During the elimination the judges selected Corey, Patricia and Bo as those on the chopping block. The judges decided to give Bo a second chance but said that he is the most boring and unmemorable male among the group and that he had to step it up to remain in the competition. The judges decided to kill off both Corey and Patricia. They said that Corey was more of a goofy best friend than a leading man, and that Patricia did not step up in her performance tonight and was not in the same league with the other actors.
In the spirit of tonight’s episode we’ll say Das Vadanya to Corey and Patrica.
