Dancing with the Stars: Four New Dances Introduced

Four new dance styles were used this week on “Dancing with the Stars” – the 2-Step, the Bolero, the Charleston, and the super sexy Lambada.

Chuck and Anna got the 2-Step. Chuck certainly looked the part. Len liked his lift and the entertainment factor, but he reminded people that this was a dance contest and Chuck needed to improve. Bruno said he raided the 2-Step yet it looked managed to make it look like a 2-Step. Carrie Ann agreed he suited the 2-Step. Although the judges seemed to have good words, his score was 17.

Next up was Melissa and Mark with the Charleston. It was cool how they made the opening dance sequence look like an old timey movie. Bruno said she brought the flapper back to life 110%. Carrie Ann said it was definitely her dance. Len also praised it, saying it was about energy, excitement, and entertainment and she brought it all. She got a 10 from Bruno and 9’s from Carrie Ann and Len for a total of 28.

Natalie and Alec got the bolero. I loved her outfit. Carrie Ann thought it was beautiful, but she saw a struggle this week as opposed to last week. Len thought it moved very lyrically, but wanted more romance between the couple. Bruno compared her to Sharon Stone – beautiful and dangerous. Natalie’s score was 24.

Karina and Aaron got the lambada. I loved Aaron’s acrobats at the beginning, but to me, there was a certain sexiness missing. Len said he liked Aaron’s enthusiasm, but should have spent more time on the raunchiness of the dance. Bruno agreed with Len and Carrie Ann said he needed to chill out because he was trying too hard. Karina looked puzzled. His score was 18, which caused the audience to boo.

Mark and Lacey also did the 2-Step. Mark didn’t quite look as much the part as Chuck did, but he did a better job I think. Bruno loved his confidence and energy, but pointed out that his footing was off at one point. Carrie Ann also loved the confidence and connection with Lacey. Len loved that Mark helped Lacey but also pointed out the heavy footwork. Mark scored a 22.

Kelly and Louis did the Charleston. Len loved her confidence and Carrie Ann likened her to a little bird that was spreading her wings and learning to fly. She got a score of 23.

Joanna and Derek steamed up the dance floor with their lambada. Len said he now knew what he wanted to see for tomorrow night’s encore. Carrie Ann said she hoped the children at home were in the beds and Tom added that he bet some of the adults were now too in bed. Joanna’s score was 26.

Donny and Kym did the Charleston. Bruno said it showed a showman in his element, but he needed sharper kicks. Carrie Ann said that it played to his strengths, but pointed out his stumble that he had hoped she had missed.

Michael and Anna did the bolero. He was upset about being in the bottom two, but may find himself there again this week. Carrie Ann said she saw romance and commitment, but there wasn’t enough dancing. Bruno compared Michael’s dancing to the economy – it is supposed to get better every week, but nothing’s happening. Len said he was economical with the movement, but it was the hardest dance. Michael got a 16.

Louie and Chelsie did the 2-Step, but not very well. Len said it was a series of walks then Louie stopped and Chelsie did something. Bruno called Louie dazed and confused. His score was 16.

Last up was Mya and Dmitry with the lambada. How could a lambada with Dmitry not be terribly sexy? Len said it was never boring and that Mya had set high standards for herself, so he felt he would get more out of it. The audience booed him. Bruno was a little more worked up about it – he said Mya was like a erotic and exotic rollercoaster you would want to ride over and over again. Bruno and Carrie Ann gave her 10’s while Len gave her an 8 for a total of 28.
