Dancing with the Stars latest results: Ty Murray is eliminated in the semi finals

The recap show this week for Dancing with the Stars started off with a very high energy performance by Raphael Saadiq.  This was followed by a recap of last night’s performances, and anyone who reads this blog knows how I feel about that.  Off to commercial break.

Shawn and Mark did an encore performance of their Argentine Tango from last night.  Equally as good tonight.  It was followed by a piece where former champions Brooke Burke, Drew Lachey and Helio Castroneves gave their opinions on the final four.  There was a teaser that made us think there would be a first elimination announcement (all the couples lined up on the stage), but no – we have to wait to find out the first couple who is safe.

The pro dancer competition was up next, at least round 1.  The remaining two contestants, Mayo and Anna, would perform with a current celebrity, choreographing both a ballroom and Latin style dance.  Mayo was up first, with Kym.  They did the Tango.  It’s not fair for me to critique it since I don’t usually like the Tango, but the audience sure did.  The judges were very favorable for the most part.  Len said that this performance was what he loved about ballroom.  Bruno said he has a nice frame and good lines.  Carrie Ann was impressed with his choreography but thought his performance was one dimensional.  Anna was up next, performing with Maks.  They did a quickstep that was phenomenal.  The judges loved it.  Len said she brought out the best in Maks.  Bruno said it was magnificent, filled with technique yet she sold the performance.  Carrie Ann said any celebrity would be lucky to have her as a partner.  Another teaser with all the couples on stage, and then a commercial break.

A backstage interview with Ty and Gilles is followed by the Macy’s Stars of Dance Design a Dance.  The audience got to pick the style (Quickstep), music (It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that zing) and the pros (Mark, Derek, Lacey and Julianne).  It was a good performance but kind of hectic and not my favorite of the ones given by the pros this season.

Part two of the pro competition was next, the Latin round.  First up Mayo and Kym danced the Cha Cha Cha that reminded me of a freestyle routine someone did a few seasons ago (I’m thinking Kym and Joey Fatone).  The judges weren’t that impressed.  They all said that he is a great dancer, but Bruno said he’s stronger at ballroom and Carrie Ann questioned his versatility.  Anna and Maks did a Samba that was great.  The judges loved it and her.  Carrie Ann wants to see more of her; Bruno said she has shown versatility and was equally at ease with 4 different partners.  Len said if she doesn’t win he’ll show his bum in the supermarket.  Remind me to avoid the store that day.

The first elimination announcement – Gilles and Cheryl and Shawn and Mark are safe and going to compete in the finals next week.

In the end it was Ty who was eliminated.  I’m so sad to see him go, because he is a true example of the premise of this show.  Now I’m 100% behind Shawn and Mark.  Mark needs to become a 2 time champion.
