Dancing with the Stars: Latin night
Tonight was Latin night on Dancing with the Stars, or as Tom said the sexiest night of the season. I’ll hold out judgment on that for right now, but here’s my take on the dances, in the order they performed.
Mark and Lacey. They performed a Rumba tonight that was kind of strange in my opinion. I really like Mark and I’m pulling for him to do well but tonight….it was strange. And the music – I can’t imagine a hot, sexy dance to that song. Just my opinion. Len said the dance was on the hard side and lacked a bit of chemistry and warmth. Bruno said it was anti climactic, because he didn’t believe there was anything going on between them. Carrie Ann said it was uncomfortable to watch, but did say she thought Mark was right up there with Mya and Aaron if he could only build up his confidence. They scored 18 out of 30.
Joanna and Derek. They performed the Samba tonight. It was bouncy and kind of fun but I really hated Derek swinging in on a rope. I was shocked that Len didn’t criticize it. Bruno said the dance was full of excitement and life but there were some footwork problems. Carrie Ann said she loved it, that it was sexy, and said she loves the fact she is fearless. Len said it had quality stamped all over it. They scored 23 out of 30.
Mya and Dmitry. This week they were performing the Rumba. After last week’s Jive I thought for sure Mya would kick some ass with this dance and she did. It was great. Carrie Ann called it ridiculous and said she was so mesmerized by her dance she couldn’t even see if there was a lift or not. Len said it had chemistry and romance but too much going on. He said he would have rather seen more simplicity and this dance was too grand, going from trick to trick. Bruno called her the embodiment of a seductress and that the dance was fabulous. They scored 27 out of 30, getting 10’s from Bruno and Carrie Ann and a 7 from cranky old Len.
Melissa and Mark. They performed a Samba that was pretty good, although I kept worrying that someone would knock over a tiki torch and set the stage on fire. Len said parts of the dance were excellent but there is improvement to be made. Bruno said he knew she could turn it on, and there was an improvement from last week. Carrie Ann said that every week she sees improvement but she still doesn’t believe her performances – she said she needs to let go of her fear. They scored 19 out of 30.
Louie and Chelsie. This week they had the Rumba. Let me just start off by saying that Louie looked like a pro dancer with the open shirt, the slicked back hair, and I could sum it all up in one word – HOT! I thought he did a great job with the dance. He says he never saw the show before but admitted to researching the dance by watching previous performances of the male pros on YouTube. Bruno said that it was a grown up Louie, that the dance had great chemistry but he had work to do. Carrie Ann said the chemistry was unbelievable and said that Louie gave good frame. Len said he so wanted to be nice but couldn’t do it. He said the dance was wild with no finesse and that he was disappointed. They scored 20 out of 30, with Mr. Cranky giving them a 5.
Debi and Maks. They danced the Samba next. I thought the performance was kind of boring. Carrie Ann said it was really cute but a bit safe. Len said that what she did she did well, but the performance didn’t ignite. Bruno said it was slightly disconnected – this dance by her and her fiery personality. They scored 17 out of 30.
Donny and Kym. This week they did the Rumba. It was just weird. I’m sorry, there’s no way on this good green earth will I ever think of Donny Osmond as sexy. He’s an awesome performer but not in that way in my opinion. Len said he did a great job and it was well done. Bruno said it was a bit airy – fairy at times and this caused Donny to go over and kiss Bruno. Bruno told him to come over to the dark side. Hmm……what does that mean (wink, wink)? Carrie Ann got so bothered by it that she said it was a bit awkward and had to refer to her notes to comment. She did say that the performance had a genuine vulnerability about it that was beautiful. They scored 21 out of 30. Afterwards Samantha told Donny that he should have given Bruno some tongue and then the score might have been higher. Ewww.
Paula Abdul was in the audience. That was strange. And her interview with Tom Bergeron was every bit as foggy as her stint on American Idol. What do you think this is all about? Is she vying for a guest judge position on the show or what?
Michael and Anna. They performed the Samba. He’s a really likeable guy but the performance just wasn’t there. Bruno told him he was going in reverse gear from last week and that at times he danced like a tank. Carrie Ann said he was a big man with a gigantic spirit and he dances too small. Len called it a bit disappointing. They scored 14 out of 30.
Natalie and Alec. They were up next with the Rumba. It was cute to watch how embarrassed she got in rehearsals. Alec’s wife Edyta came to give pointers, and even gave Natalie permission to go for it with Alec. And she did. The performance was great. Carrie Ann said it was gorgeous to watch and wonderful. Cranky Len even liked it. He said it was very expressive and he saw the chemistry and overall it was an excellent performance. Bruno said she was a sexy beast and he loved it. They scored 26 out of 30.
Chuck and Anna. Their Samba was next. I give Chuck all the credit in the world. He is such a manly man but is throwing himself heart and soul into this competition, doing whatever Anna asks (even wearing ruffles and pink). Plus you have got to love a man who will go for a pedicure with his daughter. The judges loved his spirit and performance but the technique was lacking. Carrie Ann said it wasn’t the dance for him but she did love his attitude and spirit. Bruno said he could see the work that went into the performance but it was the Samba from Zombietown. Len said the performance thoroughly entertained him. They scored 17 out of 30.
Aaron and Karina. This week they performed the Rumba. I didn’t like it at all. I didn’t like the music and I hated Aaron’s costume. I don’t like to use such strong language in a critique but I really did hate his costume. Carrie Ann said he over exaggerated all his movements and needed to tone it down. Len said it lacked musicality. Bruno said it lacked fluidity. They scored 21 out of 30.
Tom and Cheryl. They were scheduled to perform the Samba. It was touch and go all night as to whether or not he would perform (or at least the producers would let us believe that). Listening to Tom he was not going to give up without a fight even with stress fractures in both feet. His doctors and the producers have suggested he withdraw but he said “what’s a little pain when you can party.” His performance was good considering his condition. Carrie Ann said when he dances he is easy on the eyes but the dance was not as exciting as it could have been. Bruno called him a super trooper but said his performance suffered. Len said that it was a bit careful but he could understand why. They scored 15 out of 30.
Kelly and Louis. They were the last couple to perform tonight, doing the Samba. It was a big improvement over last week. I like her and think that she could be one of the stars to beat if she can get over her nerves. Len said he’s convinced that she is a good dancer, but now she needs to convince herself. Bruno said that she had some really good sections but needs to forget about doubting herself. Carrie Ann said when her technique is on, it is ridiculous, but she needs to stay focused throughout her routine. They scored 20 out of 30.
I’m not sure who’s going home this week. Tom is going to get fan sympathy votes for sure. Maybe Mark and Lacey, Michael and Anna and Debi and Maks could be at risk but who knows. It’s all up to the fans now.

Is it me or is Samantha Harris really thrilled with herself?

And while I’m at it, some of the pros are kind of wearing thin – for example Karina.
