Dancing with the Stars Premieres!

Tonight, Dancing with the Stars had thirteen hopefuls vying for the trophy. By the end of this week, there will only be eleven. First up was Cody Linley and Julianne Hough – the youngest couple ever on the show – doing the cha cha. Len thought Cody came out full of confidence and high energy, although he cautioned him to corral the energy a bit. Bruno reminded Cody to concentrate on feet instead of Julianne. Carrie Ann was freaking out because the combined age of Cody and Julianne was still younger than her! The score was 18 – six from all the judges. It brought boos from the crowd.

While practicing, Karina twisted her ankle. But, she decided to go on with partner Rocco DiSpirito. Rocco is one cutie patootie chef, but, as a dancer, I dunno. They did the foxtrot and Rocco looked a bit off. Bruno said it was a “foxtrot on the brink of chaos.” Carrie Ann thought it was cute – no, Carrie Ann, focus on the dancing, not Rocco! Len said Rocco danced like he cooked – chunk it all in and hope for the best! Their score was even worse than Cody – 14 total.

Toni Braxton was up next. She hadn’t been pushing things since being diagnosed with heart problems, but decided she needed to go for this. As I expected, Toni was a bit better than the first two guys. Okay, I am trying to be nice, she was a lot better. Carrie Ann said it was like being in week five, it was so good. Len loved it too, although her knees are too flexed. Bruno was really, really pleased. Toni’s score was 22.

Maurice Greene and Cheryl Burke danced the foxtrot. Maurice was awfully bouncy, but in a funky James Brown way. Len thought it was wild and wonderful and Bruno loved his presence. Maurice got a solid 18.

Brooke Burke, mother of four, was partnered with Derek Hough to perform the cha cha. He loved Brooke’s hyper extended legs, but she has mommy brain and had trouble remembering the steps. Nothing at all to worry about though as Carrie Ann called her “super mom!” and Len called it the best dance so far. Her score was 23.

Ted McGinley is an outdoorsman, so his partner, newcomer Inna Brayer, feared making him look graceful would be a challenge. However, he did great. Bruno said at times he was Cary Grant, but then at other times, Steve Carell. Len thought he was suave and sophisticated. Ted’s score was 18, but the crowd booed it.

Lance Bass was partnered with So You Think You Can Dance finalist Lacey Schwimmer. The crowd loved their cha cha, but Len liked old and traditional versus the young choreography they did. Carrie Ann thought it was hot and Bruno thought it was edgy and spunky. Their score was 22 (due in part to Len’s 6).

Cloris Leachman – the moment I’ve been waiting for! I love her – how great for her to be dancing on this show while in her 80s, despite the health woes. There were a couple of slip ups – looked like Cloris threw her leg up and wasn’t supposed to and they stopped for a moment and then there was a problem with their arms connecting. But, overall, she did good. Heck, I am almost 40 years younger and probably couldn’t do as well. I loved when she flung her leg up on the judge’s table in front of Bruno and he kissed it. She fell to her knees before Len, but he said her cleavage was distracting him. Carrie Ann let her sit down on her lap. Her score was 16. When she heard the scores, they had to bleep her – Cloris made tonight’s show!

Comedian Jeffrey Ross had his cornea scratched during practice and had to go to the hospital. Against doctor’s orders, he danced anyhow. Yeah, Edyta’s going to have a short season. Jeffrey was about at graceful as Tucker Carson. The judges looked horrified after the dance was over. Bruno said nothing worked, even though Jeffrey threw his leg up in front of him. Jeffrey’s score was 12 – fours all around.

I wasn’t really happy to hear that Kim Kardashian was on this season’s show – I normally dislike people who are famous for being famous. But, I thought she did a good job on the dance floor. Len felt it was cold – no chemistry between the two. Bruno agreed there was no connection, but Carrie Ann thought she moved well. Kim’s score was 19, with Len giving her a high score than Carrie Ann – go figure.

Susan Lucci may be in her late 40s, but she is one hot mama! Bruno told her she was gorgeous lady, but her cha cha was too placed – she needed to be a slut. He told her to let herself go. Carrie Ann told her she looked frail. Len agreed with Bruno – it was too careful. Susan’s score was 15.

Misty May-Treanor is dancing with Maksim. He said they had a lot of work to do. She’s jock, so being a dancer is harder than she though. Carrie Ann said she was very intense – didn’t need to muscle everything. Len thought it was elegant. Bruno didn’t like her turns and told her to be careful with her shoulders. Misty got a score of 21.

Last up was Warren Sapp. His size surprised Kym, but Warren promised to go from the Quarterback Killer to the Dance floor Thriller. He moved pretty good for a big guy. He had the crowd going crazy! Len called him a “great big bundle of joy” and Bruno said he was light on his feet. Warren’s score was a solid 21.

Tomorrow night, one couple will be eliminated.

After seeing Rocco on Top Chef I thought he’d be arrogant, but maybe he was nice because he was so out of his element. I didn’t know that Lacey was a finalist on SYTYCD – thanks for the info!!!

Susan Lucci hasn’t seen 40 in about 20 years, but I do agree, what a bod!

Oops, my bad Grandma – I thought she was in her late 40s. Susan is actually 61, which makes her even more of a hot mama!
